Chapter 13- Players And Pawns
"Rex, calm-."
"CALM DOWN! CALM DOWN! HOW CAN YOU POSSIBLY SAY THAT!" Rex screamed while him and the two goons limped down an ally way covered in blood and scratches.
Police sirens wailed in the cities backdrop as the three trudged into the darkness. Rex held his wounds tightly till a sound from his phone startled him. He answered it quickly.
"Yes, sir?" He gulped.
"Alexander," a voice croaked on the other side. "What's the news on the children?"
"The doctor has all of them," Rex shivered at the sound of his voice. "But we have a tracking device that allows us to locate their coordinates."
"Really?" The voice pondered. "Well in that case I'll give you one more chance. Fail me and I will come out there and do it myself!"
The line died leaving Rex pale.
"We got to find them," he gulped.

The desert landscape of Colorado played over and over like a broken record. We were all silent in the RV, except for the constant grunts and groans from Dr. Frame whose leg was wrapped tightly, but still bleeding through.
Finally, one of the new recruits, Nathan, asked, "where are we going?"
"Gregory Phillips house in the middle of this desert," Dr. Frame replied. "You see he's a -."
"Brilliant scientist from Sweden, who not only helped you and two others on the Kryptonite Project, but wrote a fantastic thesis on extraterrestrial radiation and its effect on earth life," Ginger finished.
"Thank you, Hermione Granger," Dr. Frame huffed while rolling his eyes. I lightly chuckled as Ginger folded her arms with a disapproved snarl.
I got up and joined Dr. Frame in the passengers seat where I said, "how are you holding up?"
He gave a weak smile and said, "well I'm still together in one piece."
I nodded, "unlike that weirdo Zeke ran over in the zamboni-."
"Zekeboni!" He corrected from the back of the RV.
"Zekeboni," I repeated. "What the heck even is that dude?"
"Not your average human," Dr. Frame frowned. "Human, but not average."
"Like us?" I questioned with wonder.
Dr. Frame shook his head, eyes fixated on the empty road.
"He would have shown up on the Stalking Device, sport."
I nodded my head. "True."
Dr. Frame paused then gave out a soberly sigh.
"Listen, sport. I was just listening to the radio and um, I'm not sure how to put this, but the FBI and CIA have your father in custody."
"WHAT!" I gasped so loudly Dr. Frame swerved the RV but quickly straightened it.
"Easy sport! Don't worry! As soon as we get to my pals place, we can sort everything out," Dr. Frame answered.
I gulped as I felt my heart rate jump up to like, a million beats.
"But my dads innocent! Why would they take him!"
Dr. Frame frowned as my body started to glow again.
He touched my arm and said, "calm down, Luke! It's going to be okay."
I gulped and tried to calm down just as a single house appeared amongst the red landscape.
"We're here!" Dr. Frame smiled.
My orange glow died as we pulled up to the lonely Mobil home which looked abandoned. Halting, we all piled out feeling the heat of the sun, despite it was autumn.
"Alright, kiddos," Dr. Frame said limping towards the porch. "Let's get this big mess all sorted out."
...
Agent Blane stared at the many screens displaying top secret information when a single agent walked in.
"Sir! We have some startling news!"
"What?" Blane growled.
The agent handed a file to him and said, "we believe someone else is after them, sir."
Blane opened the folder and saw a security camera image of a older teenage boy with a red streak in his hair and blood over his face next to two men in mob boss quality suits.
"Interesting," Blane stated. "We have another player in the game."
The other agent looked at the image then asked, "do you think there a big threat, sir?"
"They are only pawns-huh, that's strange," Blane squinted at the image then yelled, "bring this image up on the screens!"
Instantly the photo came up. Blane moved towards the screen and pointed.
"What's on the back of theres necks?"
The computer zoomed in onto a tattoo.
"Get me files X-13 from Area 51, stat!" Blane shouted with worry.
"Sir, what is it?"
Images of the file flashed on the large screen of different time periods with different people with those tattoos.
"No, no, no, no!" Agent Blane screamed typing quickly into the computer. More and more images came up along with crop circles, graffiti, etc, with the same symbol.
"No! No! NO!" Agent Blane screamed.
Then a single photo filled the screen. A face no one was expecting to see. A face no one was hoping to see.
"NO!" Blane cursed pulling out a cigarette and lighting it.
"Impossible!" The other agent cried. "He's dead! We killed him! Didn't we destroy him making him and his cult no longer a threat to planet Earth?"
Agent scrambled everywhere at the sight of this face. Blane bit into his cigarette and muttered, "aliens."
