Chapter 9- Dreams And Disasters

"So we're really on the run?" Rylie squeaked in the back seat of the truck with Vanessa sitting beside her, comforting her throughout the story. I sighed from the front seat and said, "and I all my fault. I'm sorry. Me and my big temper."

Rylie paused and looked at her hands in her lap before saying, "so, will I be able to see my parents again? What about my friends and my- ."

"In due time, Rylie. We have to find everyone first. We already have the cops on our trail. Plus another band of lunatics. But as soon as we find everyone we'll figure it out. I promise you will see them again. We just don't want you or anyone else getting hurt," Dr. Frame explaining in a soothing voice as he drove the truck straight on through the night.

Rylie nodded when Zeke yawned and said, "it's getting late, don't you think? So we stop for the night?" Dr. Frame looked through his rearview mirror with a concerned look on his face. His eyes were starting to sag from exhaustion when he sighed and said, "your right."

"Is it save to stop at a hotel?" Max wondered as Zeke and him were squashed up against the window. Dr. Frame stopped at a red light and said, "wheres the next dot, Luke?"

I picked up the stalking device off of my lap and gazed at it. "Somewhere in the next city." Dr. Frame nodded and said, "If we get a non common motel we should be fine if we left early in the morning. I have some cash that will last us a little bit." And with that, we drove into the night.

The next city was much larger than the little old town I grew up in. Larger buildings. Everything almost looked more rich and clean. My dad tried to get a home here. They were too expensive though.

"Are you sure you can find a place cheap here?" I asked Dr. Frame. "It's a bit pricey around these parts." He gave a tired but encouraging smile. "Only if you know the right place to look."

The truck went on for another ten minutes till Dr. Frame pulled up in parking lot of an old run down motel. A little neon sign, half light up said, "Martins Motel."

"Well we'll have to call this good," Max said opening the door. Him and Zeke fell out as the girls exited. I climbed out of the front seat and closed the door only to have to close night air nip at me.

Nuzzling up in my hoodie, I followed Dr. Frame where he got us a room key. As we walked down the motel hallway, the stench of cigaret smoke and chlorine filled my lungs to the brim. I coughed as Dr. Frame opened room 24B.

We piled in as he closed and locked the door. I turned on the lights to reveal two small beds, a crummy, ripped up couch and a small television. "The girls can share one bed. Dr. Frame, you can have the other," I said walking over to the window and shutting the curtains.

"No. You take the bed, Luke," Dr. Frame smiled. "I'm going to go down stairs and use the pay phone to order a pizza. Wouldn't want someone tracing our call now, would we." And with that, he left.

I plopped on the bed as Zeke and Max sat on the couch. Grabbing the remote, I turned on the television, hoping to find something to get this wild goose chase off of our minds. Of course that didn't happen.

Instantly, the screen lit up as the news came on.

"-cooler temperatures tomorrow with a mild breeze coming off the Rocky Mountains on the Utah border. Now to our breaking news report." The television went from weather forecasting to a black lady who sat at a news desk holding papers.

"Breaking news as science teacher at West Park Jr. High School, Henry Frame is charged with kidnapping a group of children. One of his students, Luke Moser is caught in this scheme after furiously attacking another student, Howard Stewart, who is recovering in the hospital."
