Chapter 2-Betty White Impersonations And Test Runs

My dad and I leaned our ears against the door, listening closing to whoever, or whatever was out there. "Hello?" My dad said in the worst women's voice I have ever heard.

I slapped my forehead as a familiar voice replied. "Luke, I know your in there. And tell your dad he needs to work on impersonating Betty White. That was horrid." Even though the mood was tense and my life could have been in danger, I managed to crack a grin.

"Luke. Please let me in. I swear I'm the only one out here. I won't hurt you. All I want to do is have a nice, friendly talk." I bit my lip, deciding if it was best to let him in. Before I made my decision I stood up, peering through the little looking scope on my door.

As I squinted my eye, getting a good look outside, I knew Dr. Frame was telling the truth. Only his truck was parked in our drive way. And he alone stood on my doorstep, unarmed.

I glanced down at my dad and shrugged. "I guess we can trust him." My dad paused giving me a worried expression. "Luke, are you sure?" I nodded and unlocked the door, slowly opening it only a crack. "Yes?" I said peaking my head out a bit. "All the way, sport. I don't bite." I sighed and swung the door open, letting him in.

Dr. Frame smiled and entered our home with me quickly closing the door behind. Immediately, my dad start to his warning speech. "Listen, here. I'm not letting you take my son so you scientists can experiment on him! You'll have to get past m-."

"I'm not here to take him or experiment. I'm here to explain" Dr. Frame interrupted. For a moment my dad and I stood there, unsure how to reply. The mood was even more awkward when Dr. Frame noticed my dad in a oversized jersey and red boxers.

He gulped when I said, "wait. Explain what? I should be the one explaining! I turned into a flipping fire-skicle!"

Dr. Frame sighed and sat down on our rugged, old couch. "What I'm about to tell you could get me killed. It's top secret. But you should know." I felt my rapid heart beating get faster as the house got quiet.

A moment past before Dr. Frame said, "I wasn't a biology and chemistry teacher forever. Back in the day, I worked for the NSF."

"The Nation Science Foundation! Really?" I gawked. He nodded. "I got in on some pretty top secret stuff. I actually got to work in Area 51 for a while. Then it happen" Dr. Frame paused as if trying to recall the past memories. "What we call the Krypton Meteorite crashed in present day Colorado. It landed behind an orphanage, resulting in nine children being injured and burned."

Oh flapjack! He knew all of it, I thought nervously.

Dr. Frame gazed into my hazel eyes, then saying, "you were one of the kids." I paused, then slowly nodded my head.

Dr. Frame sighed and looked back at the ground. "We took you guys in. Made sure you all were stable. After a week we knew everything was fine. Just a burn. That was a big mistake." I squeezed my sweaty palms and said, "what do you mean by it was a big mistake?"

Dr. Frame sat up continuing, "I took the lead experimenting on the meteorite with a few good friends of mine. Months after Krypton was found I discovered the after result. It's potential is still unknown. No matter how hard I tried I could not figure out how it worked. All I knew it could do remarkable things. Reverse gravity, molecules and possible time. I haven't got that far yet. But then it struck me one day. Those kids would have had to experience the after result too, right? So I brought it to the board and you know what they did?"

Dr. Frame huffed, blowing his shaggy brown hair out of his face. "They thought I was a loon! Completely bonkers! "Superhuman children? Lol!" That's what they said! And then I was fired with my friends."

I gave a small sigh as we all sat in awkward silence for a moment. Finally I said, "I'm sorry. I could tell you worked very hard." Dr. Frame nodded and said, "yeah. But I was right!"

Dr. Frame jumped up as he said, "I wasn't crazy after all!" My dad and I looked up at him when Dr. Frame bent down and looked me in the face. "Now tell me everything, Luke. Tell me everything about your power."

I paused thinking if I should really trust Dr. Frame. I have knew the guy since I started school. He has always been my favorite teacher, and I have always been his favorite student. He even took me out for pizza one night for passing an exam! I mean, he wouldn't lie to me, right?

I looked at Dr. Frame, believing myself I could trust him. "Okay. I'll tell you. This stays between us though." My dad shot me a crazy look. "It's okay. I know we can trust him" I replied.

And so began a very long story about my crazy life with super strength. As I told the tale, Dr. Frame would stroke his goatee and nod. He didn't ask questions or comment throughout the whole story. He just listen silently.

When I finished Dr. Frame gave out a sigh then sat back. "Wow." I nodded in reply. Dr. Frame paused then saying, "well that makes sense now. Everything clicks. Wherever that ash landed magnifies that certain part in the body to an unbelievably high limit. This is crazy."

You could say that. I mean, most of my life I had to precautions not to break everything. Carefully open doors, don't break the facet, try not to put a hole in the floor.

"I have one last question for you, Luke" Dr. Frame said looking at me dead in the eye. "Um, yeah?" I gulped. "Can I run a test on you?"

My dad jumped up, yelling, "WHOA! We said not experimenting!" Dr. Frame stumbled back saying, "no, no, no. I mean can I take him to my house. My workstation is set up there, I just wanna DNA sample. Then I can do everything on the computer. No experimenting, whatsoever."

I pushed my dad back, letting him cool off. "Alright. But I'm warning you, one thing that sends me into alert mode and your toast. I ain't afraid to use these puppies" I said holding up my fists.

Dr. Frame smiled and said, "alright. You okay with this, Betty White?" I laughed as my dad rolled his eyes. "Fine. I trust that Luke knows what he's doing. But let me tell you, don't make him mad. It will get ugly."

Dr. Frame nodded and shoved his hands in his lab coat pockets. "Alright, Luke. Let's get some test runs done."
