Chapter five
Approaching footsteps were the first thing that alerted me to the fact that something was wrong. I immediately jumped up from my bed and started pulling April from the desk chair she was sitting in. I pulled her towards the bathroom so that she could hide in case the footsteps I heard belonged to Smith.
"Don't say a word until we give you clear." I whispered as I pulled back the shower curtain and helped her inside. She just nodded in response while I shut the curtain and ran out of the bathroom. Once I was out of the bathroom I ran over to my desk and grabbed a book that covered the ancient Greek language, tossed him a random book from his desk and jumped on my bed where I started pretending to read. I was 'reading' just in time for a boy with red hair and green eyes to open the door and start asking questions.
"Have you seen a blonde go by?" he asked looking at me. I figured he was talking about April since I had seen him with her a few times but I decided to keep my mouth shut.
"Sorry the only blonde I've seen is sitting on that bed." I replied pointing to Jason.
"Hi." Jason said once the boy turned to look at him.
"Well thanks for telling me you haven't seen her." The boy said as he turned and walked out of the room. Once he closed the door I threw a very confused look at Jason who returned it with the very same look. Wanting to know what was going on I walked to the bathroom and told April that everything was clear and that some kid was looking for her.
"Crap! Look I've got to get back to my room. Kyle is looking for me. Come and get me when you're ready to leave because I want to be there to see the look on Smith's face when he finds out you're gone." She said as she walked out of the door.
"Wait I don't know where you stay." I called out.
"Three doors down." She called before she shut the door. Once the door was shut Jason looked at me funny again.
"Like the band?" he asked as he started smiling. Then we both started laughing at his music reference.
"No literally three doors down." I said in between laughs.
"Right. Well come on we better get packing." He said smiling.
"What is there to pack? Our lives fit in two bags." I said as I walked over to my desk and grabbing my duffle bag that all my clothes fit in and my backpack, then tossing them on my bed.
"We've still got to pack even though our lives fit in two bags." He said getting his bags and also tossing them on his bed. The next maybe half hour was spent packing and making sure that there was nothing left in the room that belonged to us. Then we got comfortable at the foot of my bed. Jason sat and leaned against the foot board of my bed and laid his legs straight out in front of him, while I laid my head in his lap and tried to get him to remember the names of important people Mr. Goodrich wanted us to study and know for next year.
"Alright let me get this straight there are twelve Olympians. 5 goddesses and 5 gods?" he said playing with my bangs like he had last night. Twisting them through his fingers then moving it out of my face when he dropped them on top of my eyes.
"That's the way it was until Dionysus became a god because he created wine. When he became a god Hecate, goddess of the hearth, was I guess kicked out or something and Dionysus became an Olympian. Making it 4 goddesses and 6 gods."
"Got it."
"Can you name them?"
"Yeah but I can't guarantee that I'll get them all right."
"That's fine but can you also name what they control?"
"I can try."
"I know you can do it." I said looking him in his eyes.
