Chapter thirteen
"You always do this?" Annabeth asked as she sat next to me on in the sand. I was turning the Minotaur horn over in my hand thinking. I had open my box shortly after sitting and found the horn inside. It was the exact horn I had used in the fight. I had been sitting here for a while after telling Jason that I needed some time to think by myself. I continued staring at the horn as I replied.
"Do what?" I asked
"Sit in the sand and stare at a horn."
"No not really. I just needed somewhere to think and it was quietest here."
"Thinking about what?"
"Everything. Mainly where I'm going to get put. If I get put somewhere at all."
"Maybe I can help you narrow down the choice. I mean I'm just going to be guessing when it comes to this but it's a start right?"
"I'll bet 20 bucks you don't get far. Daughter of Athena or not." I replied looking away from the horn to look at her.
"I'll take that bet. What your mom like?"
"I don't know. I never knew her." I replied looking out at the ocean
"Well that's a start. If you didn't know you mom but knew your dad then you're most likely the daughter of a goddess."
"No. I didn't know my dad either." I replied not looking at her. For a while she didn't say anything then she said sorry.
"It's not your fault I don't know my parents. Giving me up was their option not yours. You've got nothing to be sorry for."
"I know but I just felt like I should say it. I don't want to pry or anything but is that how you met Jason?" she asked hesitantly. I smiled at all the memories I had made with Jason in the orphanage.
"Yea. We were given up and birth and were the only ones yet to get adopted. Well there was one more girl but we never really talked much. Anyways we always knew we were never going to get adopted because of the amount of fights and bad things we had gotten into, but staying there until we turned 18 was not going to happen so we ran away." I said finally looking at her. There was something about the way she looked at me that was different then before and I had a feeling it was because of what I had just said. Having gotten her answer she didn't really push the subject anymore. We sat looking out over the water for a while before I decided to speak.
"So what did you come see me for? Surely not to hear my life story." I said looking back at her
"Oh right. Um... Oh Luke wants to see you for sword lessons and tonight's the practice game for capture the flag, so you'll have to get fitted in armor." She replied standing up and offering me a hand. As I accepted it I noticed a black tattoo on her right forearm.
"What's that?" I asked pointing at the mark
"My cabin tattoo. You get it when your clamed. Normally it goes on your sword handling arm and is the symbol of your godly parent." She replied holding the mark out in my direction
"Which is why yours is an owl. For Athena." She nodded her head in response. Then without saying anything else she started walking up towards the grass. I grabbed my horn and box, then followed behind her. She lead me to the arena where I was going to be training and told me she would be back in about an hour and a half. I walked over to where Luke was standing in the middle of the arena. He greeted me with a smile.
"Glad to see you made it. Come on we need to get you a sword." He replied walking to the edge to the arena were several daggers and swords laid. I just look at them in amazement before I listen to what he had been saying. He told me to pick them up and test them, see if they were balanced and see if I like daggers or swords better. I picked up several daggers and found that they felt both small and unbalanced so I decided to try out some swords. After picking up several I found that the length fit me fine it was just the balance that didn't work.
