Chapter sixteen
"I think you could be my sister." Percy said. I immediately froze trying to process what he had just said. He thinks I could be his sister. Ok little weird but even I had thought we were connected in some way.
"What makes you think this?" I said after a long drawn out silence between us. He simply reached in his pocket and pulled out a photograph and showed it to me. The picture was one I was very familiar with. I had attached it to a letter to my mom when I was 10. At the time I had no idea that you had to have certain information on the letter so I was shocked when he pulled it out knowing it would have never reached my mom. It was a picture of me when I was 10 standing in front of my locker at school. I reached out wanting to hold it once more then drew my hand back remembering that it didn't belong to me anymore.
"Take it. It's not mine." He said holding the picture out towards me. I slowly reached out and took it, studying it even though I'd seen it a thousand times.
"How did you get this? I tried to send this to my mom when I was ten. Where did you get it from?" I asked looking up at to find that he was just staring at me.
"I found it at my house. The day before I left I found it on my mom's desk so I picked it up. I've held onto it ever since." He said still staring at me.
"Still what makes you think I'm your sister?" I asked still puzzled.
"Flip it over." I did as he said and found that someone had written on the back. As I read the message I saw that it was written as if they needed to remember who was in the picture.
Never forget your daughter Piper Jackson who was born on August 18 shortly after her brother.
After I had read this several times I looked up at Percy.
"Look I'm not asking you to believe me or anything it's just this feeling I have. I didn't want you to be surprised if this turned out to be true in the future." He said running a hand through his hair.
"I get where you're coming from and thanks. I just don't know what to think right now." I replied lying a little. The only thing I could really think about at this very moment was the picture of him in my back pocket as well. Not knowing what else to do, I started walking back in the direction we came from. I heard Percy follow.
"Hey wait a minute please." He said gently grabbing my elbow and turning me around.
"What?"
"What's on your mind? You looked like you were thinking really hard back there." He said. I knew I was going to have to show him the photo sooner or later and I figured the sooner the better. I looked around at where we were and found that we were standing half way in between Jason and the Aphrodite cabin. I took the photo out of my back pocket and handed it to him, making sure Jason didn't see the picture side. Although I kept Jason from seeing I didn't keep the Aphrodite cabin from seeing and they immediately started talking behind their hands. He took it and looked at it for a while then asked me where I had gotten it.
"It was sent to me in the mail by someone anonymous. Look I know you really want to talk about this but we've got to get going. Free time will be over soon. We need to get to our next activity."
