"Come on, Rose, have a little faith in me." Garner smiles at me.

I shrug my shoulders. "It sounds scary to think I'm putting my life in your hands."

Garner laughs a little. "It's not all that bad." He says. "You should really learn to trust people more."

I roll my eyes and laugh a little. It's a forced laugh, mostly because I don't want to make him feel bad.

"Lady Rose! Master Garner, quickly, the King is requesting your presents!" One of the butlers runs up to us.

I quickly share a look with Garner before nodding.

"Let's go." I say.

Garner nods his head back at me. "Take us to him." He looks at the butler and smiles a little.

The butler nods his head and leads us off towards the room Garner and I were in the first day we came here.

The King was pacing back and forth. His outfit looked to be stained with deep red blood.

I felt my stomach begin to twist itself into knots.

"What happened?" I asked quietly.

The King looked towards us, his eyes were the look of what fire would be. "There was an attack. Almost a hundred dead."

I swallow hard. "W-What happened?" I repeat myself.

His eyes burn into mine. "Those fire creatures appeared and slaughtered almost everyone downstairs. I want you two to tell me what is going on right now. There's something you're not telling me."

I look over at Garner quickly. His expression is hard, unreadable almost.

"Sir, we had no idea what was going on downstairs, you can't blame us for it."

The King turns his murderous gaze onto Garner. "But where were you during the attack? Neither you or the girl was in the room when it was happening."

Garner swallows hard. "I understand that, sir. But we didn't cause this; I can assure you of that."

The King's eyes flashed. "That's what you're saying now. But you're not really doing anything that's helpful either."

"Garner," I whisper. I touch his arm gently. "Your highness, we didn't cause anything... I swear that to you. We barely know this place as it is. Do you really think the two of us are capable on an attack of this scale after being here only a few days?" I hesitate a little and look down. "I'm sorry sir, but we never knew this place existed until we came here. I would never hurt anyone here. Not after they've already been through so much. I can't make you believe me, but I can plead my case."

The King doesn't say anything for a long while. I can almost swear the only noise in the room is my heart beating really fast.

"Those are words spoken from a true leader." He says eventually. "I'm sorry I accused you two, but you have to understand this from my point of view." He shakes his head. "My niece... she sought out a fortune teller and saw our future. I'm beginning to fear that it's coming to reality."

I step forward a little. "I can't promise that we're going to stop it." I tell him. "But I can promise you that we're going to try our best to help."

The King nodded his head. "Thank you... that's all I could really ask for to begin with." He shakes his head. "Sadly, I asked the same of King Aiden and he declined. The massacre downstairs only made his decision more promenade... You and Garner are our only hope right now."

Garner steps in. "We won't let you down, sir, we promise."

The King nods his head again. "I think it's time to let you both retire to your rooms for the night. I'll have a few of the guards escort you there." He nods his head towards the door.
