"Now that you've figured out how to let your fangs free, bite into that watermelon just there." Andy pointed to the kitchen bench, where a whole watermelon was.

I walked over to it, while feeling my fangs. They're pretty long. And annoying. They sit outside of my mouth and over my bottom lip, the ends reaching just above my chin.

I picked up the watermelon and looked at Andy, questioningly.

"Just bite into it with your fangs." He explained. I knocked on the watermelon with my fist. It's pretty hard. I don't think my fangs are going to be able to sink through the thick green skin.

"I don't think it'th going to happen." I lisped, all thanks to the sharp fangs.

Andy sighed, then opened his mouth and released his fangs. They're even more dangerous looking than mine. Andy walked over to the fridge and looked inside the freezer part of it. He pulled out a frozen chicken. "Feel it." He told me.

I felt it. It's even harder than the watermelon. "If you're going to try and bite that damn chicken, I wish you luck."

After I said that, he sunk his fangs into the frozen chicken. With ease, I may add.

"Far out, how the hell did you do that?!" I exclaimed. He retracted his fangs and spoke.

"Easy, I simply used my fangs. They're tough weapons, too, explaining why I was easily able to bite the chicken." He explained. "Now, your shot. Bite into the watermelon."

I looked at the watermelon. I have a feeling my needle-like fangs are going to snap off if I try to bite into this. I opened my mouth and sank my sharp teeth into the watermelon. I was surprised by how easy it was. I pulled my fangs out of the watermelon and retracted them.

"Good job! See, it wasn't that hard, was it?" Andy said.

"Yeah, whatever." I put the watermelon down and started picking bits of the fruit out of my teeth.

Andy started talking. "Now, we need to start your training for fighting. It's not too easy. You see, mentors always ask their fledgling where they would like to train. They do this because, if the fledgling has picked the right spot that will later represent their future bond, the fledgling will mature into a healthy Son or Daughter of Night. If they pick the wrong spot, well, they're dead, basically. When my mentor asked me where I would like to train when I was a fledgling, my mind thought of a clear river, small waves being formed by a harsh wind. As you know, I picked the right spot, seeing as my bonds now are water and air."

I gulped. This seemed scary.

Andy continued. "Fortunately, you already know your bonds. One with fire, and the other with Thana. Now, think where you would like to train. Let your mind be set free and run wild."

I closed my eyes and let my mind become blank. An image spread behind my eyes. It was a graveyard during nighttime, the same one CC, Ashley, Andy, and I went to when we discovered I had a bond with Thana. The graveyard was heavily lit by candlelight.

I opened my eyes. "I know where."

"It's dark." Andy said.

I looked around me. We just arrived at the graveyard. There were lots of candles, but they weren't lit yet, so it was quite dark, even with vampire vision.

"Thanks for stating the obvious." I told Andy.

I walked to the centre of the huge graveyard. Right there was an old gumtree, multiple unlit lanterns hanging off the branches. There was a small fountain by it's side. It was cream in colour and it had many beautiful engravings carved into it. I sat down on the edge of the fountain. "Not only is this place hauntingly peaceful, it's also beautiful." I said.

"Thanks for stating the obvious." Andy mocked me, smirking.

I looked up at him. "Yeah, whatever." I looked around me. There were lots of candles and lanterns. Why aren't they lit? And who put them here?

"Why are they all unlit?" I asked Andy.

"It's because you are meant to recognise your bond before training." He explained.

"Oh." I looked around me. It's gonna be hard to try and set every single one alight at once. "Hey, fire, uh, I need you." I spoke to thin air, then I felt the sense I get when I know the element of fire is waiting for my command. I would appreciate it if you could light up all the candles and lanterns in this graveyard, I thought in my head, hoping fire would do my bidding.

All of a sudden, every single candle and lantern lit up. I even think Andy jumped a little bit. I smiled. It worked, again! I'm getting good at this.

"You still need to acknowledge your other bond." Andy explained.

"How am I meant to do this one?" I asked. He shrugged. Great...

"Uh, Thana? If you can hear me...uh... I don't know what to do for this..." I said.

Nothing.

"Please help me?!" I blurted, then I clamped my mouth shut. I bet I sounded stupidly desperate.

Make me proud, my child...

I screamed and looked around me. I didn't see anyone. "Did you hear that?!" I asked Andy.

"...nothing." He said, shaking his head. Then he asked me, "What happened?"

"A female voice told me to do her proud or something. It was creepy..."

Andy smiled. "I'm guessing that would have most likely been the Ancient Vampire Goddess of Death herself speaking to you."

I grinned. "Cool! So, I can start my training now?"

Andy nodded. "Yes. Now that you know how to use your fangs, you can learn how to fight with them. Sound good?"

I nodded, then glanced at the flames burning in lanterns and on candles. I thought of Thana's voice in my head. I smirked. "Bring it on."
