Josh looked stunned.
"Whh-why? Why can't you work in the LA office?"
I shrugged. "There's an opening in New York, but LA is filled." Josh shook his head.
"That won't work."
"It'll be a couple of weeks. We've been apart longer than that."
"No."
"Josh! You were just telling me to get a job, and now you're not letting me try."
"Well, you'll have to try to find work closer to home."
I started to get seriously upset. "Josh, you're not my father. You can't control me. I'm a grown woman."
"You can't go to New York!"
I slapped him, but pulled back quickly, horrified at what I'd just done.
Josh stood, fuming.
"Get out of my house."
I picked up my things, opened the door and slammed it shut. I heard Lily's cries from inside, "Daddy, don't fight with Mommy! Where Mommy go?!" I got into my car and took off.
"'Sup! How you doing, sis?"
"Rachel, I need to crash at your place."
"Sure... Why?"
"Josh and I had a big fight over my job. I- I just don't know what happened."
"Oh. Okay. Matt's at his friend's house, so it's just me and April. She's a little grumpy, so watch out." (Did I forget to tell you about Rachel's daughter? whoops! ;) )
"Cool. Thanks, Rach."
