Thirty seven
Alexis and Hilary walked in together. They sat down and right away Hilary said "Did you see the video? They might take away off campus lunch. I feel so horrible. This is all my fault."
"It's not your fault."
"It is too."
"It's everyone's, for not making it better."
"Still. So many people go out. What are they supposed to do? I go out. I get coffee every single day."
"Siara you won't be able to get your...lunch. We won't be able to go to Tyler's."
"I didn't even think of that. I'll be so... grumpy."
"I really hope that doesn't happen. People will blame it on me."
"If they do, tell me. I'll talk to them." Siara said.
"Ok." Hilary smirked.
The Bell rang and the substitute teacher turned on the overhead projector. "This is your prompt that your teacher left for you today. Go ahead and start writing. I'm going to take roll. Please say here when I call your name."
Siara looked at the board. *If you could buy anything you wanted, and didn't have a limit on money, what would you do?*
Siara started to write. *Most people would probably say "I would buy myself shoes, and clothes, and makeup, or electronics, but I wouldn't".*
"Siara Daniels." The substitute said. Siara didn't hear, because she was focused on her writing. "Siara Daniels." She repeated.
"She's here." Alexis told her.
"Where is she?" The teacher asked.
"Right here." Hilary pointed at Siara
"She zones out when she writes." Alexis added.
"Ok. Thank you." The substitute said before she continued.
*If I could could buy anything, I would buy a house, but not for me. I would buy a house for my mom. One that didn't have mice, and spiders. I would buy her a real bed, with real bedding, not a cot, with quilts. I would get her into rehab, and get her cleansed. I would get her good groceries. I would also buy my sister new furniture, stuff that hasn't been peed on by her kids, and new blankets to use while watching movies. I would buy her kids new toys that aren't torn, and broken. I would also buy nice gifts for my friends. For all that they have done for me. I would even take food, and clothes to the homeless. I would get them blankets and pillows, maybe even buy a big house, with hot water, and food, and a chef for them. I would make sure they had what they needed too, because we are not the only ones who need somewhere to live. I wouldn't buy myself new things. I wouldn't spend money on myself, I would do things for others. I would make others happy. Because that is what makes me happy."Money can't buy happiness?" Well I don't think that is true. Maybe it is for some people. Maybe that haven't seen little kids faces when they get presents. Maybe that haven't bought a house for someone. Maybe that haven't seen the sparkle of the eyes that light up, of a person who, gets a slice of hot pizza, when they have been living off of scraps for months. Maybe that have never done something for someone that needed it. But I would. I would do these things to make them happy. That's what I would do if I could buy anything.*
The Bell rang about a minute and a half after Siara finished. She put her pencil away, and turned her paper in.
"Was it good?" Alexis asked
"What?"
"Was your paper good? Is that why you zoned out?"
"Oh... Did I zone out?"
"Yeah."
"Oh sorry. I guess it was. I liked it."
"Good." Alexis smiled. "Well to Tyler's then?"
"Yeah."
They walked to the front if the school, and waited.
"He's probably running a little late chopping wood." Siara said sitting on a bench.
"Yeah. Woah, it's really cold today. Like colder than last week."
"I heard it's gonna snow again tonight."
"And you swam yesterday? Holy crap."
"I told you I don't get cold."
"Look there he is." Alexis said and stood up, zipping her coat.
They got in the car and they drove off. "Sorry. I decided to do a little extra since it's supposed to snow."
"It's ok. And we were actually just talking about that." Alexis said.
"They said there's supposed to be like 4 or 5 inches." Tyler added.
"Wow. Do you think they will cancel school?" Alexis asked.
"No. Minimum is 6 inches to cancel." Siara told her.
"That seems like a lot."
"Yeah. They don't think snow is a good enough reason to cancel."
"That's dumb. What about black ice?"
They stopped and got out.
"I guess they would rather us learn than be safe..."
"Right. That's how it seems." Siara said frustrated.
They went inside. "Hey Alexis. I know you like salad. There's a Cesar salad in the fridge if you want it. Or you can make a sandwich or whatever."
"Ok. Thanks."
Tyler and Siara shared a bag, and Alexis ate the salad. They sat on the couch, while eating and drinking.
Alexis looked over and saw Siara drinking from the bag. She put the fork down, and didn't take a bite.
"What's wrong?" Tyler asked.
"I-I think I'll eat this at school. I kinda lost my appetite..."
"Oh. I'm sorry Alexis." Siara said lowering the bag from her mouth.
"Here. C'mon." Tyler said taking Siara to the kitchen. He opened the cupboards, and looked around. Finally he found a water bottle with a straw. The bottle was white metal, and the straw was black.
He poured the rest of the bag in the bottle, and screwed on the lid. They went back to the living room and sat down.
"Now you don't have to see it." Siara said.
After a few minutes, they went to the coffee shop, and they all three got a drink.
They pulled up to the school, and Tyler kissed Siara goodbye. She licked her lips and smiled.
"What?" Tyler asked.
"You taste like blo- you taste good." She kissed him again and he left.
