Fifty

Siara woke up still hazy, and looked around. She was in Tyler's room. On his bed. "Tyler?" She said looking around. "Tyler? Tyler! Tyler!" She started to worry.

Andy walked in.

"Andy. Where's Tyler? Why didn't you help him?" She tried to sit up. "I told you to help him. Why didn't you help him? Where is h-"

Tyler walked in, out of balance. "Siara I'm OK. Calm down. It's OK." He sat next to her.

"Why did you tell him to help me? You needed help. I was worried about you. I thought-"

"Siara I'm OK. It was just the side effects of the cure. We're all OK."

"Why did we all faint?"

"Well you passed out when I bit you, right?"

"Yeah..."

"It's the same thing. Our cells, and everything have to change, and our bodies basically put us to sleep, so we don't feel any pain or anything."

"Why did it take me so much longer to pass out?"

"Because you've only been one for a few weeks. We have for a hundred years."

Kimmy ran in the room and hugged Siara. "I thought you'd never wake up!"

"I'm OK Kimmy."

"But you weren't waking up. Tyler and his dad woke up a long time before you did. But you wouldn't."

"What time is it? 8 am? 9am?"

"It's 6:00 Siara." Kimmy said.

"We got here at almost 7, so do you mean 8?"

"No Siara. It's 6pm..."

"Maybe that's why I'm so hungry. We need to go home and make dinner before dad gets home."

"He's staying out of town, remember?" Kimmy reminded her.

"Right. Well."

"You can have dinner here if you want. My dad cooked. He always makes extra."

"OK. Thank you. Kimmy C'mon. Let's go help set the table." Siara said and stood up. She felt dizzy and fell back onto the bed.

"Hey, woah. Take it easy. You have to take it slow for a few hours."

"Right. Sorry."

"Don't apologize. C'mon. Let's go." They slowly stood up and Andy walked to the other side of Siara to make sure she didn't fall.

They went down and kimmy had already set the table.

They ate dinner, and there was still extra that no one would eat.

They cleaned up the dishes, and put the extra food in plastic bowls. Kimmy suggested they take it to people who need it.

Tyler drove them around and they gave the food to people on corners, along with plastic forks and water bottles. They also gave dog treats if they saw dogs.

Tyler took them home and kimmy went to her room.

Tyler sat on the couch with his arm around Siara.

"Is it weird? Knowing that you no longer need the one thing that has kept you alive all these years?" Siara asked.

"Well... yes. But, it's also a relief."

"So that's it? I'm human now? We're human?"

"Well we're like super human, but yeah. No more blood."

Siara felt a sudden weight lift off her shoulders.
