"This is just scary. So we're clones, sure. But do you really have to have the same first skiing experience I do too? Next you're going to slice your hand on a kitchen knife like me!" Danny said, his voice thick with irony.

Dani rolled her eyes. She lay on her bed, too sore to enjoy the dinner Danny had brought her. Her leg was swaddled in a stiff cast all the way from hip to ankle.

"Well maybe this wouldn't have happened if you'd actually got on the freaking lift and showed me what to do!"

"After breaking your leg, do you ever want to go skiing again?" Danny asked.

Dani thought of the swinging lift, the thick snowfall, and Gage.

"I might try it again sometime," she mused.

"Unbelievable," Danny laughed.

"Sho whath going on in sthool?" Dani asked through a mouthful of baked potato.

Danny shrugged.

"People are getting hyped up for that dance. Sam and I are cutting out this year. A dinner at the Nasty Burger and a night of video games sounded better."

"Ah, you hopeless romantic," Dani teased. She set her plate aside and grabbed her crutches from where they were leaning against her bed.

"You up for a little Halo? I bet I can still kick your butt," she challenged, heaving herself out of bed. Danny shifted awkwardly from foot to foot.

"Uh... well I finished my homework. I was just checking in before-"

"Oh right. Ghost hunting awaits," Dani sighed, collapsing back onto her bed. "When you're out there getting kicked around, remember what a good time I'm having here." She grabbed a book and began to read determinedly.

"You sure you're alright?" Danny said, edging out the door.

"Yep."

"Need anything?"

"Nope."

"Ooookay then... I promise I'll catch you later tonight."

"Yep. Have a good time," Dani said, briskly turning a page. She waited until the door closed and Danny's footsteps had receded down the stairs before setting aside her book. She was being a brat. It wasn't Danny's fault that she was stuck here. And it was his job to patrol for rogue ghosts. She couldn't pull him away from that.

Sighing, she sent him a text.

You're awesome. Be safe tonight.

Then Dani collapsed restlessly against her pillow. Another fun filled day drawing to a close.
