"That's it," Danny hissed, yanking Gage off the road. He crept behind the tree line and pointed through the thick branches. Gage could just make out the outline of a darkened mansion.

"He's going to have alerts. Probably a few guards too," Danny explained. "He'll probably have the ghost shield off just in case he has to make a getaway... but you never know."

"Do you have a plan?" Gage asked, peeking through the trees at the massive house.

"If I did, this wouldn't be a rescue," Danny replied. "He's probably in the lab though. So we'll head there."

He floated up through the branches.

"We'll have to be fast. If he has time to set up his defenses, we'll never get out. I'll head through the roof. You try phasing into the basement. Stay sharp, and follow my lead."

Gage rolled his eyes.

"Ready... set... GO!" Danny yelled, bolting forward. Gage zoomed along beneath him, eyes locked on the mansion. All the exhaustion from the trip had vanished. It was only him and Danny now.

Danny split off and sailed toward the roof. Gage kept his eyes forward until he heard Danny shout in surprise.

"Dani?!"

Gage skidded to a stop, staring upward. Dani was hovering above the roof, looking calmly at Danny. The moon shone down on her, making her glow even more radiantly in the darkness.

"Hello Daniel," Gage heard her say quietly. "We've been waiting for you."

She lowered her hands and blasted Danny right in the chest with an ecto ray. For a moment he hung in the air, stunned and smoking. Then he fell.

Gage surged forward. Danny landed on top of him in free fall. Gage rolled him over, frantically checking for a pulse. A glowing ring of light flashed over Danny as he turned back into his human self. But he was alive.

Before Gage could look up, an energy bolt sent him sprawling. Dani floated overhead. He grabbed his skateboard and took off. Dani tracked him, shooting ghost rays methodically as she swiveled. Gage use a massive burst of speed and shot up  the mansion walls.

"Dani! What are you doing?" He yelled, kicking off the wall. "We're here to save you!"

"Oh my dear boy," a smooth voice chuckled. "She's not the one who needs to be saved."

Gage landed on the roof and spun to a stop. Dani floated serenely towards him, her green eyes curiously blank. And beside her floated a ghost unlike any Gage had ever seen. Powerfully built, dressed in a red and white cloak, with pale blue skin and evil red eyes.

"Danielle isn't yours any more," he said quietly.
