"Dani! Gage is here!"
"Be right down!" Dani called. He looked nervously in the mirror again. She had tried on what felt like every dress in the store before she and Becca had finally agreed. The silvery dress hugged her waist before loosening into a floaty skirt. It had seemed alright at the time...
There was nothing for it. The dance had already started. She nervously pulled at one of her curls, then left her room.
Gage stood at the foot of the stairs dressed in a casually rumpled suit. He had been talking amiably with Tucker and Valerie until he glanced up. His eyes widened as Dani walked down the stairs, trying hard not to trip on the long dress.
"Wow... you... you look..." he stammered.
"Dang Dani! Lookin' good," Tucker complimented. "Not as good as my date of course, but still." Valerie rolled her eyes at him, but nodded approvingly at Dani.
"Sure you lovebirds don't want to come?" Tucker called up the stairs.
"Not a chance!" Danny yelled back. "We're going for an all time world record on Halo!"
"You already broke the record for least romantic guy ever," Dani murmured under her breath. "Let's roll."

Prom was in full swing by the time they arrived. Tucker and Valerie soon melted into the crowd, though they were dancing so enthusiastically that they were never completely out of sight.
Dani stood self consciously for a moment, eyeing everyone else's immaculate makeup and gowns. Beside her, Gage took her hand.
"Come on," he said quietly. "I have something to show you."
He lead her up the stairs and phased through the locked door to the roof. Dani gasped involuntarily. Floating yellow lights spiraled above the school roof, keeping time with the faint music from below. It looked like the stars themselves had descended to dance.
"How... how did you?" she asked, wonderstruck as she turned on the spot.
"I know a guy," Gage smiled. "Danny helped me set this up... what do you think?" he shifted nervously from foot to foot. "I wanted to have a dance floor and maybe-"
Dani kissed him.
"It's perfect," she whispered, arms around his neck.
His eyes crinkled in a genuine smile. With a flourishing bow, he held out his hand.
"Care to dance?"
