"Jack it's twins we're having twins?!" Mary jumps up in excitement. While on the other hand Jack becomes consumed in worries.
"I-I don't know what to say?" Jack confesses rubbing his palms together to create some sort of heat.
"Oh Jack, look at me" Mary grabs a hold of his face gently. So his eyes are fully focused on the beautiful women who sits in front of him. "You're going to be an amazing father. Too both of our babies. I know this is terrifying. I have a thousand questions rolling in my head but I wouldn't want to share this experience with anyone else but you. I love you, baby" she kisses his cheek softly.
"I wouldn't want to have a child with anyone else but you. I'm happy we get to start a family together. But what if I mess up? God knows how clumpy I am.. God forbid I drop the poor child flat on its fa-"
"Oh Jack stop that nonsense now you're just being silly." She laughs at her husband's playfulness. "You'll be amazing maybe even better than me"
9 months later
"Push just a little more" the nurse says while holding Mary's hand.
Mary looks up at Jack and he kisses her forhead lightly. "You're doing good baby, they're almost here" she gives one last push and next thing you hear is a crying baby.
"Its a boy, now one more push Mary just one more"
Mary takes a deep breath and pushes as hard as she can.
"Its a girl, congratulations you have a beautiful baby boy and baby girl"
________________Mary stares down at the clueless baby boy in her arms. She smiles to herself and kisses his little fingers that wrap around her index finger.
Jack is consumed in the little girl. He feels like if he moves just a tad the baby girl will wake up and start crying. So he holds her delicately. Careful not to hurt the tiny baby.
"We're parents" he whispers slowly looking up.
"Yeah we are" Mary smiles at her husband. She starts crying, tears of joy and accomplishment.
_________________"Jack please put the boy down!" Mary laughs from the couch as she sees her husband recreating the scene from Lion King.
The boy giggles in the air and puts his hands out like he's flying.
"He likes it!" He yells over laughter filling the room. The breeze nothing but soft kisses and unstoppable laughter.
________________"Now I know you two must be scared. This is a big step. Ali, Jake look at me. Me and your mother love you a lot and you'll do great. Just don't misbehave, okay?" Jack says.
"Yes daddy!" Ali speaks up with a smile on her face. Her two front teeth missing. He moves his gazes from her to the little boy.
"Jake?"
"Yes daddy I'll behave" a grin plastered across his face. The noise of kids getting louder and louder as he approaches their destination.
"Okay I guess this where I leave you two. Be careful okay? I love you. Give dad a kiss" the two kids lean up and kiss his cheeks gently. Before running off giggling and slightly pushing eachother.
And just like that they were at their first day of school. He's heart broke a little as his children waved bye to him. Why couldn't they stay small he thought.
"We did it, kinda slowly but surely" Mary says while standing at the kitchen counter drinking tea.
"Is it werid that I want to pick them up already?" Jack says. She only laughs a low laugh that drives him crazy. "What?" He smiles up at her.
"Is it bad that I agree with you?" He only shakes his head with a smile on his face.
She walks up to him and makes her way to his lap where he gently rests his hand on her thigh and runs his other hand up and down her spine.
"I miss them" he mumbles into her hair.
"I do to" she plays with his hair twirling the little curls gently. Jack leans into her and rest his head on her chest. She wraps her arms around his neck.
"Mmm maybe we should go check on them?" Jack suggest. She giggles into his hair.
"No, let them have their fun. They don't wanna see mommy and daddy right now. Plus we gotta be the cool parents not the embarrassing ones."
"Okay well we have 4 more hours before they're out, what do you wanna do princess?" Jack presses a kiss on her nose.
"Its a fort day, I'll go buy the snacks you'll build the fort and pick out a movie?" She suggest wanted the kids to join them after school.
"And this is why I love you more than life" she kisses him one last time before snatching the keys off the counter.
"And I love you more than the sun on a summer day" she presses a kiss to his lips gently.
"I'll never get tired of that baby" Jack says while his eyes are still closed.
"Dork, bye I love you"
"I love you"
But she never came back and the car was totalled. All that was left was tears and shattered heart. A untouched fort that was made but never under. A little girl who fell to her knees and a little boy who hugged his sister not understanding the situation. The boy asked for answers that wouldn't be answered because Jack was silent drowning in his own tears that wouldn't be brushed away. Not now not ever. Because to him everything was gone. And the fort that wasn't touched and the kisses that weren't their and the movie that won't be played.
