Chapter 20- The Reaper

The next day went the same like before. Daemon seemed to have come back to his senses and wasn't overly sweet again.

In fact he made sure that he insulted her at least twice an hour so that she wouldn't think that he was going soft.

But to her surprise, he never crossed the line and even asked her if she was feeling ok and even insisted on cooking for them.

Rose looked up at the clock as she packed up the last of her assignments. It was past noon. Daemon had said that he was going in search of Aiden. He hadn't commented much on it but she could see the immense worry on his face. Aiden must be someone who was very important to him.

She ignored the heavy feeling in her chest.

She was getting that bad feeling... the feeling like Aiden was in big trouble...

She tried blocking out the events from last night but she was only successful for so long.

"Hey love, care to join us..." the cloaked figure asked very casually with a hint of a smirk in his voice.

The woman he was holding looked completely terrified.

"Run away," she yelled trying to get her breath, "he is mad... completely crazy. Go away or he will kill you."

"Nah, nah, nah..." the cloaked figure, who Rose had figured out was a man, said, "you shouldn't speak ill about me in front of our guest. Besides, I was expecting her... and why would I ever hurt our special guest."

The stress on the word 'ever' sent shivers down her spine.

"Let her go..." Rose said bravely to the man even though she was quivering in fright inside. What did he mean by he was expecting her?

"Why don't you come here and make me?" he said tauntingly to her. Never having backed out from a challenge and she had a feeling that even if she stayed still or went to him, what would happen to her would remain the same.

Besides, her conscience would never let her leave a woman in the hands of the devil.

The devil... like the grim reaper...the reaper...

"You're the reaper, aren't you?" she asked frightened. Here, she was standing in front of the man who Daemon had been trying so hard to find.

Even thinking about Daemon didn't hurt that much like before... because she knew that something bigger was about to happen.

The man threw his head back and laughed loudly, scaring both her and the woman. The woman's whimpers became louder.

"I knew you would find it from him... you were always a feisty little thing, weren't you?" he said amused.

"How do you know me?" Rose said terrified. Then she looked at the woman who was trying to catch her breath.

Knowing that she had the Reaper's attention, she did something that was both brave and incredibly stupid.

With a war cry that she had admired in movies, she barreled forward and threw herself on the man. He was too caught up laughing to realize that she had tried to knock the wind out of him.
