9 - Double Cheese

In New York, Effy and Axl are at McDonald's eating some burgers and fries and drinking soda. They had to land in N.Y. for the jet to refuel, so they are stuck in here for some several hours and McDonald's was Effy's choice for today's lunch.

"So you're saying that this is the first time you come to McDonald's?" William asks, quite surprised with the fact that Elizabeth never went to McDonald's. How is that possible? Everyone had gone to McDonald's at least once in their lives.

"Yes, I had never come to McDonald's or ate a McDonald's burger before." Effy affirms with a playful smirk before taking a mouthful bit from her double cheese burger. "It's not my fault that there's not a single McDonald's in Portugal."

"I know, but you told me that you had travelled a lot. Portugal is not a valid excuse." He says. He was making a bright smile. Axl is happy being with her. It is good, it feels good. The only time he had been with her was with Slash and he needed this time alone with her. Just the two of them.

"Yes, I travelled a lot. I went to England, Germany, France, Holland and even Morocco, but I always went with my parents, like family vacations. And my parents never thought that McDonald's was a fancy restaurant for their family. Please, don't ask me why, they are crazy." She ends her explanation with a laugh. She's happy for enjoying and sharing this moment with William. Effy feels happiness, she's finally happy. After such a long time, she is smiling and the reason isn't coke or weed. The reason is William. She's happy around him. She doesn't know why, but she doesn't question it either. But she can't enjoy much longer, she needs a fix. Effy is trying to fight it, she doesn't want to do it right here, right now. She wants to wait 'till they arrive to the jet. She doesn't know if she can handle it, but she will try.

"Oh, I see. You and your parents are a happy family." Axl says. The parents' topic brings him sadness. He never had a real family. What he had shouldn't be called a family, should be called monsters.

"No, not really. It was kinda fake." Effy says, looking down to her board. Her family isn't a family either, it's a fake family. That kind of family where parents pretend they are happy and love their children. It's complicated, too complicated for Effy wanting to understand. She didn't ask or question her parents or her brother or even herself why they were the way they are. She just knew that she was too careless to care.

"What do you mean?" Axl is confused. He noticed sadness in the tone of her voice when she referred her parents and how quickly her smile faded away. He does't understand what she meant.

"I'll tell you another time." She gives him a small smile. She wont't let her parents put her down. No. She wants to enjoy this moment with happiness and not with sorrow.

"So, did you like your burger?" William quickly changes the subject. He noticed how much this topic bothers her.

"Yes, this is really good. Thanks." Effy is glad the topic has vanished. She's smiling again. Her gaze moves away from the board to William's green eyes. They're amazing. Effy loves them, she really does. They are the most beautiful eyes she has ever seen. And she thought Nick's grey eyes were beautiful. They actually are, but not like William's.

William looks straight into Effy's eyes with a smirk. He loves when she smiles. He loves her smile, her mysterious eyes, he finds himself thinking he loves everything about Elizabeth. Apart from her perfect body, wonderful grin and mysterious eyes, Axl loves her badass attitude. She doesn't make herself for fool, she knows what she wants and what she does. She's not naïve or innocent, she knows what life is and its dangers. She's not like those girls who are pure, innocent, naïve and you just find them once in life. But she's not like those whores who think they are smarter than other girls and all they want is free sex and drugs either. No, Elizabeth is unique, there's no other girl like her.

"You're welcome, beautiful" He grins.

They are finally back on the jet. They spent four good hours in New York; they had a lot of fun.

The first thing Effy did when they arrived was running to the restroom, she needed a fix badly. The desperate way she ran into the restroom and how quickly she moved made Axl confused and suspicious.

"Is everything alright, Effy?" He asks by the closed door.

"Yeah, yeah, I just need to take a piss." She says on the other side of the door by the sink, looking for a little plastic bag in her purse.

Axl shrugs and goes to sit on an armchair. The way she ran into the restroom worried him, but there's nothing to worry about, right? She just needed to take a piss. Effy wouldn't do anything stupid. She's a smart girl, too smart to do something stupid to herself. This is what Axl thought to himself to relax his huge imagination.

A/N: The chapter is short and not very good, I know, it's just wanted give you something before they landed in LA.

The next chapter will be longer and better. I promise you.

Fun fact: The frist McDonald's in Portugal opened just in 1991.
