"Cheryl, please tell me what's wrong." Kimberley asked for the third time today while Cheryl continued to sob.

With their hands firmly intertwined, Kimberley pulled Cheryl closer and applied soft strokes along the arch of her back in an effort to calm her down. From the very moment Kimberley arrived at the Surrey estate, Cheryl couldn't utter a single word nor stop her endless tears from streaming freely down her face.

"Chezz." Kimberley started again.

"It's Simon." Cheryl cried out, barely able to contain herself.

Kimberley reached for another tissue and handed it over to Cheryl, who took it immediately and dabbed her chin.

"What about Simon?" Kimberley asked, arching her brow slightly.

Cheryl wiped away her remaining tears and shifted her weight uneasily, trying desperately to ease her trembling body.

"Babe, what's Simon got to do with this?" Kimberley inquired again. "Is he overworking you again?"

Cheryl shook her head and blinked rapidly. "No, Simon came to visit us." She answered nervously.

"Okay, and?"

"And he stayed here." Cheryl clarified.

"Okay..."

"For a couple of days." She continued, holding her breath.

"Okay Cheryl you're going to have to be more specific babe because I'm not follo..." Kimberley trailed off.

She noticed the look that Cheryl gave her and gasped aloud. It was that kind of look that she knew all too well.

"Oooohhhh" Kimberley replied in complete shock. Her eyes widened and she felt her jaw hit the ground. Of all things, she was not expecting this at all. In fact, this would have been at the bottom of her reasons why her girl would be bawling in the early morning.

At the sight of Kimberley's countenance, Cheryl released a groan and buried her face into her hands in embarrassment.

Kimberley was so stunned that she was actually rendered speechless. She just sat as still as a statue and stared at Cheryl like a deer caught in headlights.

"Please say something Kimba!" Cheryl cried out.

"What in the world Chezz?! I...you...Simon...you...and then...what?!" She exclaimed while gesturing nonsensical things with her hands.

Kimberley felt herself become light-headed. Her mind was wandering everywhere and her mouth just couldn't keep up. At this moment in time she was convinced that Cheryl had gone mad.

"I don't know Kimberley. It just happened!" Cheryl explained.

"No no! People agree to go out with psycho men, people steal, people burn things down, people smoke crack, people hurl themselves off of cliffs...those things happen! Sleeping with your boss doesn't just happen! God Cheryl, what were you thinking?!"

"I don't know!" Cheryl cried out. She felt bad enough as it was and for once Kimberley was just making things worse.

Kimberley calmed herself down before continuing. She realized that she wasn't being the supportive friend that Cheryl needed right now and she kicked herself mentally for being so insensitive.

"I'm sorry Cheryl, my maternal instincts just kicked in babe." Kimberley explained, halting all movement and locking eyes with dark brown orbs. "It's just that I worry about you, you know? I don't want your life to get any more complicated than it already is, and seeing you so bruised up like this is literally heart wrenching for me."

Cheryl focused her attention on her fidgeting fingers and nodded in understanding, feeling the knot in her stomach lessen slightly.

"What exactly happened Chezz? Was this some kind of one night stand or is it something more?" Kimberley asked in a hushed tone.

Cheryl sighed in frustration. "A little bit of both. I have these weird feelings Kimberley and one thing led to another and it just happened." She explained, feeling more and more like a broken record by the second.

"Where is he now?"

Cheryl felt her tears creep up again. "He's gone. He just up and left last night, or this morning. I don't know."

"Oh babe." Kimberley expressed compassionately before pulling Cheryl into a tight hug.

"I really thought he cared about me Kimba. He made it seem like he cared about me, but all he wanted from me was..."

Cheryl couldn't even say the word. Somehow it made her feel so dirty knowing that she did the deed with someone who didn't truly love her the way she needed to be loved. Cheryl wasn't the type of girl to give herself away to someone unless she genuinely felt like something was there. She found the act of lovemaking to be special and personal, and knowing that she'd been deceived into giving it away made her feel filthy.

"It'll be all right babe." Kimberley reassured, leaning forward to give her a kiss on the cheek.

Cheryl responded by nuzzling into the arch of Kimberley's neck and resting her head there for a few moments, just enjoying the precious moments like these that made life more uncomplicated.

With Kimberley by her side, she always felt safeguarded from all the horrible things in her life, and for the first time today, she felt completely at ease.
