My Dads funeral kept getting closer and closer until it was three days later and I was wearing black and getting into a car to go to the church. Sam had been calling me around fifty times a day, just asking how I was. He was true to his word and has not given up. I've already forgiven him but I want him to suffer for a bit longer. As I walked into the church I saw that not many people were there. Only about twenty people, apart from my brother, mum and I. I guess my Dad didn't know many people. I walked down to the front and sat on the bench. My mum and brother soon followed.
The ceremony began and then it was time for speeches. My Mum went first.
"John, I know we've had a hard time together, with our family and our troubles but I still love you. You may not have been the best dad or husband but you gave it a try and that's all I could ask for. I do miss you and I wish I could have seen you just one more time to just talk to you. I love you" She said with tears running down her cheeks, then got down from the podium and sat next to me.
Jake spoke next. "Dad, I do love you but I cannot forgive you for what you've done to our family. Goodbye forever" He said resigned and walked back and sat down. His speech was so short. Jake just didn't seem to care our Dad was dead. He nudged me telling me that it was my turn to go up so I did. I cleared my throat and began talking.
"Dad, I do love you. Even after everything that happened. I'm sad about the way things turned out but I'm glad that I can finally move forward with my life. I hope you're happy wherever you are now. Goodbye, I love you." When I sat down Jake grabbed my hand and gave it a squeeze.
We drove to the cemetery and got out of the car. They took out my dad's coffin and they all helped lowered him into the grave. As I was walking up to place a rose on the coffin, a warm hand slipped into mine. I looked over and saw that Sam was standing there giving me a small smile. I smiled back and we walked up to the grave. "Bye Dad, I love you" I said as I placed the rose on the grave. My brother and mother did the same before all of us, including Sam, got into the car and drove home.
