I woke up feeling a little queasy. Something I normally don't feel. I got up out of bed and it hit me. I took off running to the bathroom and threw up. I sat beside the toilet for a few minutes, making sure I didn't have to throw up again. I washed my mouth out and brushed my teeth. Definitely don't want that taste in my mouth all day.
I grabbed my phone and checked the time. It was five o'clock in the morning. Christmas break was over now and today was the first day back.
I wasn't hungry so I didn't make me anything. I just made a bowl of oatmeal for Carter. I walked back upstairs to wake him up. He was pretty easy to wake up and he was always in a good mood.
His smiling face made my morning better. "Are you ready to get ready and eat?" I changed his diaper and put some sweatpants on him. It's cold this time of year in Tennessee. I grabbed his shirt and carried it downstairs with us. I put him in his highchair and began feeding him. I leave his shirt off in the mornings so he doesn't get it messy. He is a boy after all.
I got him cleaned up after he was done and put his shirt on. I was nowhere near ready so I grabbed Carter and ran up the stairs. I guess today is going to be a lazy do. I grabbed my tribal print legging and a gray sweater. I curled my hair the day before and it still had some curl to it, so I just stuff a gray beanie on. I did all of this while Carter played with some toys on the floor.
I grabbed my school bag, Carter's diaper bag, my keys, phone and of course Carter and headed out the door. I put everything in the car and buckled Carter securely.
I still had a few minutes on my hands so I decided to stop at Starbucks. I got a Caramel Frappuccino, the same as always and hit the road again.
Once I got to school, I felt a little sick again. I tried my best to hold it down. I took Carter to Mrs. Adams. His face immediately lite up.
"Good morning dear! Oh, you don't look so hot." Mrs. Adams put her hand to my forehead. "You don't have a fever. Are you feeling okay?" she asked.
"Yes mam. I just think a might be getting sick. I don't want to miss any days so if I don't have a fever I am gonna stay." I told her kinda truthfully.
"If you get worse, go home instantly. You hear me young lady!" She points her motherly finger at me.
"Yes mam, but I think I am fine." I told her.
She rolled her eyes. "Get to class!" I did what I was told.
I tried my hardest to pay attention but my stomach kept doing flips.
"Will you please stop." I said quietly to myself as I sat my head on my desk.
"What was that Miss. Lain?" Mr. Smith asked.
I raised my head. "Nothing sir can I please be excused?" I asked him as politely as I could, but I could feel the bile rising in my throat.
"Yes mam but hurry back please. Exams are coming faster than you all would believe."
"Thank you sir!" I got up and ran out of class. Straight to the closest bathroom there was. My yummy Frappuccino no longer yummy. I sat beside the toilet a little longer. A few girls came in.
"How is your mom's pregnancy going? I bet you're excited for a sibling."
That one word kept repeating in my head. Pregnancy. Pregnant, having a child developing in the uterus. I can't be pregnant, it only happened once. Oh my gosh!! I could be pregnant!
I grabbed my phone and texted Mrs. Adams. "I am going to the store real fast. I won't be long."
"Okay dear. Be careful." She sent back.
I ran out of the bathroom as fast as I could. Running into a few people in the hallway. Apparently the bell had rang for us to go to our next class.
I got in my car and drove to the nearest pharmacy. I looked up and down each and every alle, finally finding where the keep them. I looked at each one I didn't know which one to get so I just got the 5pack of clearblue. Better safe than sorry. I walked up to the cashier and she gave me the dirtiest look you would ever see.
"What? Have you never saw a woman buy pregnancy test. It is none of your business if they are for me for a friend so how about you get that stupid look off you face and do your job before I walk out." She quickly rang the box up and got the look off.
"That will be $46.78." she said.
"Oh my gosh! Dude, people actually pay for this everyday just to try to have kids?" I handed her my money and grabbed the bag.
I didn't want to take the test there so I just stuck them in the glove department until I got home. I went back to school but all day it killed me not knowing.
Sawyer came up to me and asked what was wrong. I didn't tell him anything. I didn't want to. I mean why should I tell him and then there be nothing to worry about.
The final bell rang and I was ready to get home. I picked Carter up from daycare and told Mrs. Adams I needed to get home. She understood.
I drove home and throw the box in my school bag. I walked up to the front door and it was already unlocked.
"Hello?" I called out.
I walked around not finding anything but I eventually walked into kitchen finding my parents.
"Oh wow. What are yall doing home? Shouldn't yall be in Russia or something?" I asked surprised to see them.
"We had a few days off and we figured we would come see yall." My dad said embracing me into a hug.
"Well I have to go to the bathroom. Can one of yall hold our son for a few minutes? Just long enough for me to use the restroom." My mom took him.
I carried the bags upstairs and sat on the toilet.
Best results in mornings.
Hmm, okay well I have 5 of them. I could take two now and two in the morning.
That's what I did. I sat them on the counter, washed my hands, and waited. Time felt like it was taking forever. I know it wasn't but it sure felt like it.
By the end of 3 minutes, I was pacing back and forth in the bathroom. I was terrified to look at those little sticks. This could change my life forever.
I took a deep breath a looked...
