I jumped on the first flight to New York I could. Oh don't worry, I was petrified to be on it since what happened but I needed to make sure my newly found sister was safe. I arrived three hours later, safely! I don't really know my way around New York. I don't know my way around any place other than Tennessee for that matter. I just got a taxi and gave him the address.
"Not around here I suppose." He said.
"Got that right." I replied.
"It's a big change if you aren't use to the city life."
"What makes you think I'm not city?" I asked.
"Your accent. It's no big deal. We get a lot of you people looking around the city." He said. "Here we are. The Lobsang Apartment."
"Thank you."I handed him how much I owed him and grabbed my bags. I walked up to the door number that was on the envelope. I knocked on the door three times and waited.
A dark skin woman with long beautiful black hair opened the door. "Olivia, please don't get into the cookies yet. Oh hello! I thought you were my neighbor."
"No mam. I am Adriana Lain. Robert Lain's daughter." I said. The woman's face lit up. I assume her name is Katherine, since it was on the letter.
"Please come in." She ushered me inside.
"I'm sorry to just come here unannounced but I would like to have a word with you."
"Oh yes. It is perfectly fine. Have a seat. Would you like something to drink?" She asked.
"A glass of water would be nice. Thank you." She walked into the kitchen and filled a glass of water. "Thank you."
"No problem. Now if you don't mind me asking, why are you here?" She asked taking a seat on the loveseat.
"Well, I honestly don't know where to start. My parents were murdered on their way back home. Police and the F.B.I still haven't found the person responsible. I was in their room this morning and found this letter from you." I pulled out the letter and handed it to her. "I saw the photo and could tell she was my sister. I even asked my friends and they could see the resemblance. I knew I couldn't let anything happen to her if it hadn't already. That's why I'm here. My friends are watching my little brother for for so I could be here." I told her.
"My daughter is in danger?" Katherine asked.
"Like I said, we still don't know who is behind this. We don't even know what he is planning next. I just want to make sure that she is safe."
"Mom? I want to go stay with her." Olivia came out from around the corner.
"Baby, come here." Olivia walked to her and sat down beside her. "You can't go stay with her right now. It's not safe. Plus she has a lot to deal with right now. She has a baby on the way and doesn't need the extra stress."
"No! I want to go stay with her! I don't want to be here." Olivia started to throw a fit.
"I don't mind. I would actually feel a lot safer. They aren't after you Mam. They are after us, but I will leave it to you to decide what to do." I told her.
She sat there for a minute looking at her daughter. "No, I'm sorry baby but I feel safer with you with me."
Olivia got up and took off to I'm guessing her room.
"I'm sorry, I just feel safer where I can keep an eye on her." said Katherine.
"I understand. I best be getting back to the airport. I need to get back as soon as possibly. If you need anything or if something happens, call me immediately! Here is my number." I gave her my number.
"Okay thank you. Please be careful out there. I am sorry about your parents. And I am sorry you had to find out this way."
"Don't worry about me, I am strong. It's fine. Once I read that letter I was washed over with so much fear and worry. I didn't want anything to happen to her. Just keep a close eye on her. Anything can happen." I told her.
"I will. Thank you."
I got up from my seat. "Bye Olivia. Be safe and listen to your mom for me." She came running out of her room giving me a big hug.
She pulled my arm. I squirted down. "I want to go home with you," she said.
I wrapped my arms around her. "I know but your mom wants you here with her right now. You have to stay with her. When it's safer, maybe your mom will let you come stay with me one summer. I got to go now. I love you."
"I love you too!" She kissed the side of my cheek.
I stood up and she kissed my stomach. "You will be spoiled by me." She laughed and ran back to her room.
I waved goodbye and went outside to get a taxi.
I guess I didn't need these bags after all.
3 hours later I was home.
"What are you doing back? I thought you were staying for a few days." Sam asked when I walked in through the doors at Midnight.
"I said what I need to say. Now I am tired. I am going to bed. Goodnight." I told him.
"Goodnight. Sweet dreams, don't let the bedbugs bite." He called out at I walked up the stairs to my room.
I changed into a pair of stretchy shorts and a big t-shirt. I tied my hair up it a bun and crawled under the covers. It didn't even take five minutes before I was out.
