Starting off the holiday traditions with making gingerbread houses. Tori and I weren't the best cooks but we could cook basic things. I don't consider baking one of the basic cooking skills. Baking is magical. Now attempting to make gingerbread cookies would be challenge (a huge one).
We just came back from our supply shopping, Tori has a determining face saying 'this batch shall be the one'. Yes, this is actually not our first time trying (it's like our 5th). Yet, I don't understand why we don't get pre-made cookies (Tori believes that homemade cookies are better).
I started to spread out the ingredients while Tori looks for a playlist to play.
Tori settled down with a jazzy kind of Christmas playlist even though Christmas isn't here till weeks (Tori is the kind of gal to set in the mood earlier). We started to add in the ingredients like what the ingredients says to do, and it's looks pretty normal. We roll out the dough and got our cookie cutters ready. It was an average gingerbread man shape but we liked to go even further and add a little more shapes to them.
Tori made this batch a theme to go with, and the theme she chose was 'Christmas kingdom'. Which meant we had to create knight in shining gingerbread and King gingerbread with peasants no doubt.
"Bow down to you king peasant," Tori said her fake king voice over. She was slowly dabbing the ginger breadkings head to make his crown. I, on the other hand, was making a knight.
Once we were finished creating the cookie people, we were ready for the oven.
"Okay, Tori double check for the time because we don't want them to catch on fire," I lightly tease Tori. However, she did not take it as a joke and smack my shoulder.
"Let's see, it says to bake at 350 degrees F or 176 degrees C ;) for 10 minutes," I nodded at her instructions and setter the cookies in the oven.
"Now we wait," hopefully this batch won't go wrong.
We quickly cleaned up with the Christmas music still faintly playing.
Once we finished cleaning Tori twirled into my arms. "Serenade me, y/n."
"Sorry love, but I can't really do ballet," I couldn't be as talented as the ballet dancers.
In the end, Tori still made me dance around with her. Small dances with her here and there.
Eventually out music got louder to a pint where we couldn't hear our phone go off for the cookies. We only noticed when it was changing songs and we heard the alarm.
Panicked at the sound, we quickly open the oven to have a smoke of black air come out. And let me tell you that burnt cookies do not smell great. What also made it worse was the fire alarm turning on. Beeping noises, black smog filling the air, and burnt cookies great.
"Ugh it smells nasty in here," I commented waving a rag around.
"Now we have burnt cookies and a burnt smelled house," Tori sighed out in defeat.
"Hey babe it's okay. Why don't we just go out get some pre made cookies and decorate it ourself while filtering out the house with the fans," I shot out an idea for my girlfriend.
My girlfriend more than happy accepted it and grab her coat and went out the door. I followed behind her before setting up the fans and opening the windows.
