Part 24 - funeral

Aspect stood beside Beorn and watched the company as they walked between Fili, Kili and Thorin, every one with tears in their eyes.

Beorn looked down at Aspect, that didn't show any feelings, she just stood, looking at Fili and held around the green emerald around her neck. "Aspect, go and take a last farewell," he said.

Aspect walked to Kili first. "It wasn't your fault, none of it," she whispered to him. "You did the right thing, but at the wrong moment." She stood there some more seconds, looking down at the ground, before she walked and stood beside Bilbo, that was sobbing over Thorin.

"He was a great King," Aspect whispered to Bilbo. Bilbo nodded. "This will be okay," Aspect gave Bilbo a hug. "This will be okay.." She let the hug go, before she slowly walked to Fili.

Her eyes began to water, until she couldn't see anything. Then she blinked, so many tears streamed down her cheeks. "You did what you meant was right. I couldn't do anything, and I am so, so sorry for that" Aspect whispered with a cracked voice. "I love you."

She closed her eyes and took a deep breath, hoping it would stop the crying, but it didn't. Instead it ended up with she standing over Fili, crying her sleeves wet. She sat down at the floor beside the big stone table Fili lay on, closing everyone and everything out from her head. She pressed her lap upon her chest, and held around her knees.
In the background she heard voices, but what she listened to was Fili's voice, repeating over and over again in her head. Every word he had ever said to her.

His smile.
His eyes.

Everything over and over again.

His first words she heard him say.

If the wolf will attack, he have to come through me!

He meant she was a he? Can't he see that boys are bigger than girls?

Attack them? She never could. Not them. Not after they helped her.
Not after everything that had happened with her. She didn't want to attack anyone, or she could, if she really needed to.

His last words to her.

Aspect, I said you had to stay with Kili.

That had been the hardest thing to do. To leave Fili.

Run.

The word got repeated in her head over and over again. The way he said run.
He didn't care if he was dying, he just wanted them to be safe.

Run.

That was what Aspect had been doing her whole life, running from her problems. Running from the orcs. Running from Legolas in Mirkwood. And now, again, she was going to run. Run from her problems. But where was she going to run? She felt like she didn't have any place to go.

But maybe she just needed to run, and then see where she stopped.

As she opened her eyes, was she the only one in the great hall.
