" Did you hear about the rose that grew from the concrete? Proving nature's law was wrong. It learned to walk without having feet. Funny it seems but by keeping it's dreams... The rest is up for you to find out." I said finishing the presentation.
"Thank you Casey. You can sit down." The teacher said as I headed to my seat. The bell wrung and every one picked up their stuff and headed to the door.
"Remember your assignment is to figure out the rest of the poem and who wrote it." The teacher said.
I was in the hallway heading to my locker. When someone called me.
"Casey!" I turned around
"Hey Kevin."
"Hey how was yesterday?"
"Great. Thanks."
"That's good I just came by to tell you that I won't be in class because I have to help Hope with some stuff and I can't stay after school today." He said
"It's fine I have something to do too. " I replied
"OK see you tomorrow then." He said walking away.
I waved 'bye' then turned back to my locker.
"Casey?" I looked up
"What do you want?" I asked with disgust in my voice
"I wanted to talk to you about the other day."
"Look don't worry about it. Forget it ever happened. While your at it just pretend we don't know each other." I said in a rush
"Look Casey-"
"FORGET IT! James just drop it." I said slinging my bag over my shoulder and turning away.
Then I felt a tug on my bag and everything fell on the floor. I quickly tried to put it all back.
"What's this?"
"Leave it alone." I said reaching for it but he pulled it away.
"Spray paint? What were you gonna do with this?"
"It's none of your business." I said
"Casey!" He demanded
"Look just leave me alone." I said taking the can from him and walking away.
"It learned to breathe fresh air! Long live that rose that grew from a crack in the concrete! When no one else ever cared!" He yelled down the hallway. I stopped and turned around to look at him.
"By Tupac Shakur. Isn't that the rest of the poem? Your favorite poem? I never forgot about it." He said with despair in his eyes.
"I never forgot about anything you told me. I didn't forget your favorite color or what animal you liked or your favorite food. I remember it all. I also never forgot about the way you worked so hard for the people you care about. I know you Casey. Your just lost. Please. Let me help you find your way." He pleaded
"You remembering what I said isn't the same as knowing who I am. You never knew and you still don't know." I said.
I turned and walked away in silence and pulled on my hood.
