Claire-

It's almost over, one more day, and Claire will be free. One more day, and everything will go back to normal, well as normal as it could get. Many lives have been disturbed and destroyed.

Claire stood in the middle of the room with two servants; they were adjusting the wedding dress. If they only knew she wasn't going to be wearing it long. Besides, this dress wasn't her style; it disgusted her even wearing it. It was too revealing.

The wedding dress is pink off the shoulders with long sleeves, with a long V stopping at her navel. A single golden broach kept the front from falling off; one flick of that clip and her breast would be pooling out. The back of the dress cut out for Claire's wings—the skirt floor length with two high slits.

Claire feels exposed. Those slits on the thighs aren't going to protect her sex. One breeze of the wind and everyone is going to get a glimpse of her sex. She's not allowed to wear anything underneath. She hates it so much.

She sighed. Claire is praying to the universe that everyone goes smoothly. They can't make any mistakes. One wrong move, and it'll cost them. She won't be able to forgive herself if someone innocent dies because of a single error.

Claire looked in the mirror again and shuddered—the pink dress adorned with light pink pearls and diamonds. Real diamonds. Gold threading also created intricate designs in the lace part of the gown. As beautiful as it is, Claire still hates it.

Xavier whistled as he leaned against the door frame of the fitting room. She smiled at him.

"Please leave," she told the servants. They seemed to want to argue, but they thought better of it with Xavier in the room. The servants must've heard of Xavier's temper. Once they left, she shuddered again and stepped down from the platform. "I despised this ugly dress." She wanted to rip it off her body and burn it and burn it again until there was nothing left.

"I don't like it either. But do you want to know who will?" He grinned. "Saito." Claire covered her cheeks at the thought of Saito laying eyes on her. "If Saito saw you, that dress would be shredded from him trying to undress you and ravish you."

Claire wrinkles her nose. "Brother, please, don't speak of such things. I'm your little sister. Shouldn't you avoid hearing what a man does to your sister in bed?"

Xavier burst into fits of laughter. Claire smiled. Hearing him laugh is good; it breaks some of the tension.

He wipes at his eyes. "Claire, tomorrow, it'll be over. I can assure you there won't be a wedding. I will be the brother I was supposed to be growing up. As your brother, I won't allow you to marry anyone that isn't your soulmate. Leave everything to me, my sweet, dear sister."

Claire hugged him and breathed in his scent. She wants to memorize it. Claire isn't sure why, but it feels like Claire won't be seeing him around anymore. She tightened her hold on him.

"Return to me," she said. "Promise you'll come back to your family." Xavier gave her a grim expression. "Promise me, damnit, or I will shackle you in one of the towers!"

He sighed. "I promise." But Xavier didn't sound so convinced. Claire will accept his promise and will keep tightly secure to her heart. She won't lose her brother, never. "Anyways, endure it for a bit longer."

"Alright," she sighed and stepped back on the platform.

"Demitri is coming too," he said. "Saito couldn't stop him."

Claire smiled. "I am betting Luna is going to be ecstatic to see him. I wish Saito could've taken the same leap. But I understand he needs to stay behind to wait for Luna and Sapphire's return."
