"Hi. I'm coming over this evening, okay? Bye now."
Gabriella smiled on hearing his familiar voice. She quickly deleted the last of the voicemails before walking over to the kitchen to make a cup of coffee for herself.
The blonde sat down on one of the cream-colored couches placed in the living room. She yawned as she pulled out a large folder filled with papers related to the case that she was working on. Picking out one of the sheets, Gabriella grabbed a pen, took a swing of her drink and sighed. She took a deep breath before beginning to work on the paper in front of her. She was halfway through reading the paper when she heard the click of the lock. Gabriella didn't need to look over to the main door to know who it was that had entered.
"I'm home," a very familiar voice said in a sing-song tone.
Gabriella carefully placed the papers on the coffee table in front of her before standing up to take a proper look at her boyfriend, Sean. "Hey," she greeted with a smile as she tiredly made her way towards him. "How come you're home early? I thought you had a dinner meeting with some client of yours . . ."
Sean pulled her into a hug. "Well, we decided to have a lunch meeting instead," he replied as he ran his hands over his girlfriend's back.
"I could stay this way forever," Gabriella mumbled into Sean's chest. "Why didn't you tell me earlier about your meeting getting pre-poned?"
"I thought maybe I could surprise you by coming home early, kidnapping you and taking you out on a much needed and delayed date," he said with a sigh. "We haven't gone out in such a long while . . ."
Gabriella pulled back as she placed her hands on Sean's shoulders. "That sounds amazing, but . . ."
"But?"
"Zac's coming over."
Sean's expression brightened up. "Oh, he is? Really?"
Gabriella nodded. "He left a voicemail."
"Great. Okay then, let's go out on a date some other time," Sean offered. "This evening instead of going on a date, we three can just chill."
"Like old times."
"Like old times," Sean echoed. "I'll go have a shower."
Gabriella nodded. "I'll work on this paper."
"See you in a bit," Sean said before pecking Gabriella on her lips.
Gabriella smiled at Sean's retreating figure before making her way back towards the couch, where the papers were lying around. Before she reached her destination though, a couple of diplomas hung on the wall caught her eye- one was hers and the other one was that of Sean.
"Hello," the dean spoke cheerfully into the mic. "I'm so glad all of your could make it here today, to the graduation ceremony of University of California, Los Angeles."
The audience seated in the vast hall broke out into cheers. Gabriella, Sean and Zac stood together amongst the audience, holding hands. Neither of them were able to digest the fact that they were graduating from college and were about to enter the real world in hardly any time.
The blonde smiled as she ran her fingers over one of the photos hanging off the wall, which had Sean, Zac and herself grinning at the camera, from the day they graduated college. Taking in every minute detail of the picture, Gabriella noticed how different they had looked back then even though it was just a couple of years old; carefree was the word.
