The Saddest Goodbye

Today is my first day at work. I admit, I am little nervous on what might happen and how should I interact with my office mates and especially with my boss. Surely, I researched about the company's dos and don'ts but I just can't stop my heart from thumping so fast.

I was currently walking through the path which leads to my boss' office. It wasn't as bad as I expected it would be. Few are just staring at me because they are too engrosed to their work. It was a chaotic yet a quiet scene to watch. As I finally arrived at my boss' doorstep, I took a deep breath and knocked a couple of times.

"Come in." A voice of a man replied.

I opened the door and to my surprise, an unexpected person appeared in front of me.

"Luhanssi?" I asked in horror. Of all the people, why Xi Luhan? I know it's possible but in a just a little percent.

"Good Morning Ms. Liu!" he replied in a very cheerful voice with matching eye smile.

"How come you didn't tell me that your going to be my boss?" I asked almost shouting.

"Well, there are two reasons for that. One, is that if I told you that I am going to be your boss, would you still accept my offer?"

With that, I shook my head.

"And second, I missed you Josephine and I want to surprise you its been a long time." He smiled again.

"Well, it's really been a while. How are you by the way? You really have gotten a lot more handsome." I teased him.

"Well the first and the third sentence was a fact but I think the second one, should not be asked to me." He replied.

"What do you mean?" I asked curiously.

"You know Amber, ever since you left, Kris... he never really talked to us." I was frozen hearing that name.

"He just... became cold towards us. Drinking and even smoking every night. His life was literally in chaos. We tried contacting you, hoping that you're going to be the one to save him from his agony." As he continued saying those things, tears came strolling down my face.

"He was totally broken and we were afraid that he might not debut with us because of his behavior. Until, one day, we finally found your address, he was also there you know, we... especially him.. were also surprised from what we've seen. You and Henry hyung happily living with each other. And that was the first time I saw Kris cry. After that, we left and got back into preparing for our debut. Fortunately, he does not abuse himself anymore but the Kris we knew was gone. Yes, he was cooperative during practices and events but we never saw happiness through it like we did before you left him."

I stared at him, shock and guilt was written all over my face. I did not expect that this will affect him that much.

"I'm s-or-ry." I said while sobbing.

"I already forgive you Ambs, you should not be saying that to me. When I saw your application on my table, I made sure your going to work for me not because your my friend but because I know you'll be perfect for this job..." He paused.

"But still, I know you have a reason for leaving him, right? I saw it, the look of love between the two of you and it might sound cheesy but I believe true love does not lie. What was it Amber? What was your reason of leaving him?" Luhan asked me.

I stared at him. Not knowing what to say. Should I tell him the truth or lie again?

I was about to open my mouth when we heard a knock on the door.

"Mr. Lu, Mr Lee wants to talk to you." The voice from the other side said.

"Ahh.. Ok. Let him in." Luhan answered.

"Lu- ahh.. I mean Mr. Lu, I better be going now. There's so much for me to learn today. Thank you so much for accepting me in this position." I did a 90 degree bow and started walking towards the door.

"We're still not done Ms. Liu I haven't had my answer yet." I stopped in my tracks after I heard those words. I slowly turned around an let out a small smile then continued to open the door.
