The familiar bleeping of the alarm clock wakes me at four thirty am, it's another new day and I am eager to get out onto the street. I rise out of bed and make my way to the bathroom; I brush my teeth and change into my sportswear. I place my hair into a loose pony tail and make my way outside and onto the street. Once outside I bend down on one knee and tighten the laces to my trainers. I pull out my iPod and turn it on, and then I scroll though the tracks and set off.
My feet pound the pavement as I push myself running through the street. The street is dead quiet and the sun begins her daily routine and rises up changing the darkness into shade and soon the shade into colour. I could see the crossing approaching, the signal light is changing from red to amber, as I approach I see the light flick to green and I continue to jog. A car horn bleeps and soon followed by the screeching of tyres being forced against their will to impede, the sound was so high pitched I could hear it over the music. Things happened so fast that I hardly registered what was happing and the bumper of a very large black car taps me and I lose my balance and I fall to the ground.
I sit up and stare at the car in front of me I could see my own refection in the shinny chrome grill plate, like a mirror I could see my stunned expression duplicated and echoed back at me 'Damn that was a close call Tay' I take a deep thankful breath and pull the earphones out from my ears. The car door springs open and a tall gentleman dressed in a smart black suit that looks very expensive approaches me. His majestic creature like movements gives me a sense of déjà vu and he bends down to my level. I look across to him and I notice he has a wounded lip. I realise he was the jogger from yesterday morning. I could see his features and I marvel with fascination, I feel unsettled and the feeling doesn't sit right with me. 'Why do I feel this way? '
"Are you alright? Are you hurt? Do you need some assistance? Let me help you" he bombards me with questions; I hardly had any time to answer the first question before he offers me his hand and soon I was back onto my feet. "Are you alright?" he asks me again but still has a firm grip on my hand. At this moment in time I can feel butterflies in my stomach. 'I think I am going to be sick? No I can't, suck it up Tay! '
"Yes I am" I replied dazed. I couldn't believe what had happened. Didn't he see me? Looking at him and I soon forgot about what happened it was as though I was being rescued and he was my prince saving me. I knew this was stupid thought and the reality is far from the truth, obviously one of us was irresponsible and that is a fact.
"Are you hurt? Do you need some assistance?" he inquired, and I was thrown back into reality, forced to ditch my fantasy and return to the here and now.
I still couldn't believe what had happened, I couldn't get my head around how he could have hit me. Was his vision impaired? Was he speeding and didn't react to me on the crossing? Many questions filled my head and I just had to ask him how? "The light was green" I said confused and disorientated, this was the only four words I could vocalize. I could smell his aftershave and it was invigorating, I felt high on some kind of drug, Intoxicated on him. I lose control of my functions when he is near me.
"It was amber. Besides you came out of nowhere I couldn't stop in time. Are you hurt?" he asked me again. I pulled my hand out from his grip a little annoyed and irritated, I knew the light was green, I am not stupid, and I wouldn't have carried on and put my life at risk. He smiled and watches me intently, did he think I was going to faint or die? But I lose my sense and become mesmerized, hypnotized. Stupefy.
"I'm sure it was green. I'm not hurt but my ego is a little bruised" I replied.
"I am very sorry about the ego, but I am glad that is the only thing injured. Can I drop you off somewhere? Home, Hospital, Work?"He inquired and he seemed to be truly sincere. His kindness threw me off as most men around here are jerks. The warm feeling returns and again I was mesmerized, his dark, warm eyes seemed to pull me in and I was spellbound.
