Chapter 15

After the proposal and lunch with family and friends, Austin apologized to Tony for not properly asking for her hand in marriage like he should have, which Tony agreed to forgive him as long as he made his daughter happy. Austin and Sydney went to her apartment to talk. She needed to make sure what happened the other night never happened again.

She wasn’t sure where to begin, but forged ahead anyway wanting answers, “Austin, I just need to know if you and God are on speaking terms again?”

Austin smiled, they were sitting on the sofa and she had her legs thrown over his lap, he would rather be holding her and kissing her and making plans to get married as soon as possible. Not talking about God. But in all fairness, Sydney deserved to know. “Yes, we had a nice long chat while I was driving down this morning and then Paul helped me. I know I will need to prove to you in the days, weeks, months and years to come that I have a relationship with him, but yes we are on speaking terms.”

“Good. Now can you explain to me why you called me drunk late Saturday night and then had me worried when you did not call me back?” Sydney was in a bit of a huff, but she had worried about him. If he had not shown up here today, she was going to call Tucker and find out if he was okay.

“Well, I got drunk. Something I plan to never do again by the way. I passed out and had a dream or vision or something.” He lowered his eyes and then glanced at her, “Sonya was there.” Taking a deep breath he continued, “She told me that I needed to let her go, that it was okay to love her and you. She also told me that I needed to forgive God.” He looked over at her again, “Syd, I did not wake up until this morning. I drove like crazy to get to you.”

Sydney smiled, “So, what do we do now?”

Austin grinned. “What I want to do is to take you in your bedroom and make love to you.” He pulled her close and kissed her neck, moving to her jaw and slowly towards her lips.

Sydney giggled as his soft kisses began tickling her neck. Pushing him away a little she said, “Not gonna happen! Not until we are married. I waited this long, I am not blowing it now that I am engaged.”

Austin smiled, “I’m disappointed, but happily disappointed. Can we at least make out a little?” He gave her a pouty look sticking out his lower lip and batting his eyes.

Sydney laughed, “Maybe later, but what do we do now? I mean have you heard from the headhunter? Do you have any prospects for a job?”

“No. It is really frustrating. I talked to him the other day and he said the Atlanta job market, which use to be very tech heavy with jobs has dried up. Most jobs have been outsourced. And those that are available I am over qualified for.” Austin mindlessly played with Sydney’s loose curls as they talked, letting the blonde strands slide through his fingers.

“Well, we won’t give up, we will pray about it and ask God to open the right doors.” Sydney offered.

“If God could change me and my heart, I know he will work everything out for us.” Austin sighed, “Now you have a choice to make,” he moved one hand to her bare legs and began stroking them, grateful that she had changed into shorts and a t-shirt when they arrived at her apartment. He had to touch her or burst from all desire that was building up in him. “You can kiss me,” Austin said as he reached up with his other hand to stroke her jaw with his thumb, “or we can set a wedding date and then you can kiss me.”

“Well, I like my idea better,” Sydney said as she moved closer to him and settled her bottom into Austin’s lap.

“And that is?” Austin said with a raised eyebrow.
