I looked at Elijah and could see doubt playing across his features.
I could feel frustration gnawing at my nerves when an idea struck me."Eli! We have no reason to be running right?" I asked hurriedly.
"You killed someone Kellin, of course we do." He shook his head.
"But only in self defense of myself, you, and Savannah."
"She has a point brother and we are quite close with the council, they'd let her slide if we all promised to go into hiding for a century or two." Colton butted in.
I smiled graciously at him, watching his arms wrapp protectively around Savannah.
Then a twinge of heartbreak tugged on me, Elijah had been cold and distant since we found Savannah was truly alive.
"Correction, they're fond of you, I myself am a different story." I could see the venom in Elijah's eyes.
What happened to the man I had started to fall for? He was cold, but this was a whole new level."Eli..that was many centuries ago when you were a newborn. I assure you they've forgotten it." Colton said exasperated.
I looked between them in confusion, then at Savannah. We shared a look of utter confusion, then Savnnah butted in with a pleading and whiney voice "Cole, baby? What happened? Who's the council?" She winked at me slyly.
I felt Elijah's body tense and he pulled away from my grasp, taking a step back.
Colton and Elijah exchanged a hurried glance and Elijah started "Several, several centuries ago about 7, yes we are that old-" he sighed. "I was changed at the age of 18.-" he paused briefly then continued "the head of the council, Andrew Lykin had a daughter that was a year older than myself, she was 19 and she was infatuated with me-" he paused again and looked at Colton, then continued "because Colton and I were to be a secret since our birth, she was even more infatuated with myself and she was there whe-" it was I who stopped him this time."Why were you two supposed to be a secret?" I asked quickly.
Elijah threw a shady look at Colton and then explained that they were Darkbloods, what they were and that they were to be a secret because they were a species thought to be extinct. Extinct not by nature, but by force because of their brutal nature, the fact that the darkness they held was much more powerful than mine, how I compared to them was a toddler.
"But-" he directed at Savannah. "Colton is different, he was grazed, caught in the crossfire in a way. Slightly grazed on accident because he was in the way of its path to me. Therefore, not saying for sure, but he claims it..he should or may be capable of true feelings."
I could see Colton pleading with Savannah with his eyes. So, what was this? Why the hell was I even here? He isn't even capable of love, why the fuck am I here?
I looked at Savnnah and Colton with nothing but distaste and venom in my eyes then locked eyes with Elijah.
I could tell Savannah believed Colton, but why shouldn't she, he was nothing like Elijah, he actually seemed like he wasn't possible of killing without a care.
I wanted to cry, I wanted to scream I Wanted to yell, most of all I wanted to kill him. He made me tumble head over heels for him and he didn't even have the capability to feel the same. Oh my bad, lust and anger were feelings if strongly enough provoked that could appear.
I felt the power of anger and sadness buzzing through. I could feel and see the dark tendrils that were just "child's play" dashing between my legs quickly and jerkily, as if they were agitated to."Kellin, let him finish the story before you do anything rash." I heard Savannah's voice through the haziness covering my mind.
Who was she to tell me not to jump to a conclusion, she wasn't anyone. If I wanted I could snap her like a twig, the bitch. She finally found someone to love and she lets them think she's dead. I shouldn't do anything rash? She did something rash! What the hell! I killed someone because of her rash decision to follow a goddamn stranger!
My body was buzzing, I could feel myself drifting in and out of reality.
I was on the edge of giving in completely to the darkness when I heard it, a quiet and careful females voice say "Listen to them, don't hurt anyone Kellin. You are better than the darkness that consumes you."
I jolted out of the trance that I was in and finally heard it, the yells, screams of the innocent.
I was in a small opening. A field perhaps, about one hundred yards away from a little farm house and barn.
I looked around myself, on the ground was a small boy, his throat missing and in the hand I held in the air was a small girl, maybe 10, she was scratching at the hand I had wrapped around her throat.
I loosened my grip so that she could suck air into her lungs, then sat her on the ground, her legs quickly buckled and I watched as she gaped at the tendrils twisting around my ankles and the ones inching towards her brothers lifeless body.
I looked at them and knew they wanted to feed, he was already dead, no going back so I flicked my wrist towards his body and they all flung themselves at him quickly.
I returned my attention towards the small girl, she was now crying and pleading with me not to kill her.
"What's your name?" I asked sharply.
"L-L-Lizzy" she stuttered out.
"Was it just you and your brother?""N-no, m-my mama and d-dad were i-in th-the house when th-th-they heard us s-s-s-scream and ran out t-t-to help us and y-y-y-y" I cut her off saying "Honey, please stop stuttering, I had no clue what I was doing and didn't mean to do any of this." I gave her a weak smile and gestured around us with my blood covered hands.
She opened her mouth to talk and I nodded encouragingly and she finally said "you killed my parents too, but please don't kill me, I know what you are. I've read about your kind a lot of times and I get it, it's an instinct.."I looked at her quizzically and said "And what exactly is my kind?"
I could see her search my face wondering if I was kidding, but she answered anyway "Darkblood, the worse of the monster species you guys come from." she said with so much venom if I knew I couldn't kill her within a blink of an eye I may have been intimidated.
But what she said registered with my brain later then the venom in her words, it was when the words finally hit me my mind spiraled again, this child thinks I'm a Darkblood, no! I, unlike Elijah can actually have feelings.
I lunged at her, to quick for her small frame to get away, I was on top of her chest, pinning her hands down with my knees.
"Kellin! Stop it!" I heard Elijah scream. It felt as if he was right beside me, but when I looked up he was running from the farm house, he was beside me within seconds. Colton, with Savannah on his back arrived only seconds later.
I wanted it to all be a lie, that Elijah wasn't a liar that cursed me with this immortal life that I was stuck in. I was bound to someone who couldn't even love me.
I looked down at the little girl she was crying again, pleading with Elijah and the others to get me off of her.
Elijah was more heartless than me he wouldn't care if she died or not.
"He's the true Darkblood! If you're looking for pity he isn't the one to ask!" I yelled at Elijah more than Lizzy, the small girl I had pinned o the ground.
I saw her eyes widen, I knew what she was thinking before I heard the beautiful voice in my head again "She knows she's going to die now, she knows if you aren't a Darkblood and you can do this than she doesn't have chance because of him. So, choose now, be as cold and heartless as him or reach out and find your humanity again. Save her."
I felt a silent tear slip down my face as I knew what I should do, but did the exact opposite.
