Was It You? {COMPLETED}

Chapter 2

When Ashley woke up she felt as if something sticky was on her. She got up and went to the bathroom to wash whatever it was off. She was too lazy to look at what it was before she looked in the mirror. Her face was covered in hand prints of blood. She started breathing hard. With her back against the cabinet under the sink she slid down it She looked down at her hands, and on her left hand there was a gash across her palm. That was when she screamed. It was a bloodcurdling scream.

Dani was the first to get to the bathroom, she looked rather alarmed. She saw the blood and Ashley’s hand. “Sit on the toilet.” She said. She sat on the toilet, tears streaming down her face and holding her wrist, and she wiped Ashley’s face with a warm wet cloth. Dani then got out the first aid kit and cleaned up Ashley’s hand. After she wrapped it in gauze she sent Ashley out so she could clean the blood off the sink.

When she was wiping the blood off, she saw a piece of paper. Her brows were scrunched together as she picked up the note. It read: Guess who’s next. Dani thought. Nikki and Ashley have been hurt so there’s Courtney, Jade, and herself. So Courtney or Jade should be whoever is doing this. But what if it’s Nikki or Ashley? A voice in the back of her mind asked.

It couldn’t be, she was at Nikki’s house that night, and Ashley was just too innocent and purely scared. So that narrows it down to Jade or Courtney, it sure wasn’t herself. She had been on her motorcycle. She gave up trying to figure it out, cause she was lazy and tired.

Dani walked back into the living room where Jade and Courtney were fussing over Ashley. Just because she had a hurt hand doesn’t mean she couldn’t do things! Jeez! Dani thought as she plopped down on the couch. Dani just then realized she hadn’t heard Nikki ask for anything since she saw her yesterday. So she walked up stairs and opened the door to Nikki’s room. Nikki was sleeping was her back turned to Dani. She smiled and quietly closed the door. When she turned around, Courtney was standing there, right behind her. She had to muffle a scream. “What the hell Courtney?” She scream-whispered. “Well, you came up here so I followed you.” Courtney said.

Dani just face-palmed and pushed Courtney out of the way and walked down stairs. Courtney came down the stair behind her. Ashley was still getting served, but she protested, “No, no you don’t have to do this.” After a few moments of them going back and forth Jade finally gave up.

“Fine! Have it your way.” Jade said, defeated. She sat down on the love seat in the corner. Ashley smiled in relief. They sat there in an awkward silence. “So,” Courtney said, breaking the silence, “Got a boyfriend anyone? I do!”

“Nope.” Dani said.

“Well, duh! Of course!” Jade said.

“Um no.” Ashley said quietly. They all nodded and went to gossiping, which Ashley wasn’t comfortable talking about people, so she went upstairs to Nikki’s room. She knocked on the door and heard a ‘come in’ and went in where Nikki was sitting up in her bed watching a movie. She muted the tv and said, “What’s up?”

“Nothing. It’s boring downstairs.” Ashley said, shutting the door. Nikki nodded and patted the space next to her. Ashley sat down on the bed next to Nikki. “Do you wanna hang out here for a while?” She asked her. Ashley nodded, “Sure. What are you watching?”

“Scary Movie.”

Ashley nodded and Nikki un-muted the tv and re-winded it. She didn’t mind watching it again, it was so damn funny!

After the movie was over, they were still laughing about the stupidness of the characters. “Oh my god, that was terrible!” Ashley said, wiping a tear from her eye. “Yeah but it was hilarious!” Nikki said. Once they had finally sobered up, they looked at each and burst out laughing.

Downstairs the other girls were asleep.

When they woke, they all went up to their rooms. The next day when Courtney woke she went into the bathroom in her room. When she saw her face she froze. There was a cut on her cheek. The blood was dried on her cheek and her shirt. She gave a small scream, and a minute later Dani trudged in the room, her eyes tired. She saw Courtney’s cheek and groaned. She muttered something under her breath and went to get the first aid kit.

She came back into Courtney’s room where Courtney was sitting on her bed. Dani cleaned up the cut and put a bandage on it.

Dani went back to bed, she was tired.

Courtney went downstairs where Jade was awake and watching tv. “Hey!” Courtney said, right behind Jade. Jade jumped, she didn’t hear Courtney come downstairs. “Don’t do that! Jee-” Jade stopped when she saw the cut on courtney’s cheek. “What happened?”

“Huh? Oh, that. Someone got me!” Leave it to Courtney to not have her spirits dampened by being cut by the killer. Jade just rolled her eyes and Courtney sat down next to her.

“Whatcha doing?” She asked Jade. Before Jade could answer, there was a scream from upstairs. Jade shot up and up the stairs, Courtney behind her. When they got upstairs, Jade could smell blood. She went into Nikki’s room to find Ashley with a knife and Nikki moaning in pain. She was holding her stomach and there was blood on the floor and the knife Ashley was holding.

“A-Ashley, put the knife down.” Jade said, slowly walking towards Ashley. Ashley dropped the knife in absolute terror, as if realizing what had happened, and the knife clattered to the floor. Ashley didn’t have time to speak because police men barged into the room holding shotguns.

“Freeze redhead!” One of the officers said. Ashley didn’t have to freeze, she was already frozen in terror. Men with a stretcher came in and put Nikki on it. They rushed her out and to a hospital.

Ashley was arrested and taken in for questioning. Jade, Courtney and Dani  went back home, safe. Nikki had some major injuries, but she survived.

Jade was on her daily run. It was the first for about two weeks. When she had gotten home from that house she was too scared to go for a run anymore. It felt good, it’d been a long time. “Hey! Jade!” She heard someone shout. She slowed down and looked around; it was Dani.

“Hey,” Jade said, trying to get her breathing back to normal. “How’s it going?” Dani asked. Jade nodded, “Pretty good, how about you?” Dani shrugged, “Good.”

“Did you hear? Ashley’s being let out.” Jade froze, she hadn’t heard that name in two weeks. “No. I didn’t hear.” She finally responded. “Yeah, well, see you later.” Dani said, put her helmet on and drove off on her motorcycle.

Jade watched her go, and ran back home. When she got home she went up to her room to take a shower. When she opened her door, she was greeted with a horrible sight. Her room was completely trashed, papers thrown, clothes on the floor, even her mattress was thrown across the room. There was a note on her window. She carefully walked through the mess and grabbed it. It read: You’re next.

Dani parked her motorcycle and walked into the hospital. She had been visiting Nikki everyday since she was let visitors.

She walked to Nikki’s room, being greeted by nurses, and walked in the door. Nikki was laying upright in her bed watching tv. “Hey,” She said, and Nikki looked at her and smiled. “Hey,” Nikki responded. “Guess what!” She said. “What?” Dani said.

“I get to go home tomorrow!” She exclaimed. “That’s awesome!” Dani said, and hugged Nikki, being careful of her stomach. They talked for awhile, and Dani did Nikki’s nails for her. Dani gave Nikki the magazine she had asked for and headed out after a goodbye. She would be going over to Nikki’s the next day.

She was watching Jade read the note and smiled at the sight of her terrified face. Jade quickly stuffed the note into her diary, and started to fix the room. She slowly lowered herself down from the tree outside of Jade’s window. She was quiet, so nobody heard her.

She pulled the black hood over her head and ran down the sidewalk and off into the distance.
