“Did you hear our conversation?” Yamato asked, looking me straight in the eye.

I couldn’t look at him. I felt like I had gone behind his back somehow by staying in the back for as long as I did without telling him that I was there. I felt like I had betrayed his trust, but considering that there was now a teenage girl claiming (in a roundabout way) that she was sleeping with him, I didn’t feel as bad.

“I didn’t say anything!” he yelled, slamming his hands on the bar as his face turned beet red. The sight shocked me because that was the first time that I had seen him flustered like that.

I was so confused about this entire thing. I wanted to know what Yamato was talking about when he pretty much said he didn’t plan on changing our living arrangement any time soon and what he was going to say when Ren interrupted him. How did he really feel about me? What was he hiding? Granted, I had no right to ask about him hiding things since I was also hiding things, but those were things that didn’t concern him.

Yamato looked just as confused as I felt and I could tell that he didn’t know what he was going to do, but just as I was about to ask something I heard the door to the bar open.

“Thanks for helping me carry all the stuff!” I heard Uncle’s voice, “You were a great help,”

Coming through the door was Uncle, who was holding several plastic grocery bags, followed closely by Takao who also had his hands full. When Takao walked through the door, he looked surprised.

“Hey, Yamato and Saeki are here,” he said, “we haven’t all gotten together since…” he thought for a moment, “the game?”

“It’s time for a drinking party, then!” Uncle cheered, “Let me just give Yuta a call…”

He was just about to reach for his cell phone when he noticed the silence that fell between Yamato, Ren, Saeki, and me. He looked at us all in turn, concern in his eyes.

“Why is everyone acting so weird? Did something happen?”

An even deeper silence fell over us. After a while, as if he could no longer stand being there, Yamato stood up and spoke.

            “I’m going home,”

            “What?” Uncle looked confused.

            “C’mon, Pouty. Let’s go home,”

“What?” I was just as confused as Uncle, but I couldn’t object because Yamato had grabbed my arm and was pulling me out of the bar and into the night air.

“Kogami,” I called after him as we walked down the street. He was walking a little bit faster than me so it was difficult to keep up, “Kogami, wait,”

Yamato was silent since we had left the bar. I had no doubt that it was because he was embarrassed knowing I had heard his and Saeki’s conversation. Though I understood that, I still wanted to hear how he felt. I wanted, no, I yearned to have a heart-to-heart conversation with him. When I caught up with him, I quickly grabbed hold of his arm.

            “Kogami, wait!” I stopped him,

“Whoa,” he looked surprised, like he had been pulled out of his thoughts, “geez, you’re strong,”

He had turned around to look at me, but noticed something just behind me.

            “Is something wrong?”
