My mind seemed to have turned to goo. I had known that Mr. Okishima had worked at Yamato’s school and even though he had told me that he was the principal, I had never made the connection.
“Lorien,” Yamato said as he grabbed my hand, pulling me next to him, “I apologize for not introducing my wife earlier. This is Lorien,”
“Oh, you’re Mr. Kogami’s wife!” he looked at me with a surprised expression, “I had heard Mr. Kogami was a newlywed, but I didn’t realize you were his wife,” looking at Yamato, he smiled, “You have a very lovely wife, Mr. Kogami. She is very kind and very talented. She fixed my bicycle chain when we first met and she just shared her magnificent piano skills not to long ago…”
“I apologize,” Yamato interrupted him, “but we’re in a rush. We’ll see you again,”
“Kogami?!” I yelled in surprise as he began to drag me down the street. Looking back at Mr. Okishima, I waved, “See you again!”
Yamato continued to drag me down the street for blocks until it got to the point where I thought he was going to dislocate my shoulder.
“Kogami, let go of me,” I said, trying to stop him,
He didn’t say a word or look back at me, just continued down the road.
“Kogami!” I pulled on his arm and finally got him to stop, “I didn’t know Mr. Okishima was the principal; I didn’t know he was your father. It was a coincidence that I got to know him, I swear,”
Why did I feel so bad? I mean, Yamato technically knew that I was talking to Mr. Okishima because he had asked about him when we were at the grocery store that one day. Even though I kept reminding myself of that, I still felt like I had kept some nasty secret from him.
“The principal said he’s been wanting to meet his former love for a long time, and to meet his son too!” I continued, desperate to make the situation better, “your father hasn’t forgotten about you or your mother,”
I couldn’t tell if Yamato was listening or not and it just caused me to feel panicked. This seemed to be all my fault. If I had told him what my suspicions were, then maybe this could’ve been avoided. Looking up at his face, I saw that he was expressionless.
“Hey, Kogami?” I asked, “Your father-”
“I’m thirsty,” he interrupted me.
“Huh?”
“Let’s go to Kuni’s bar,”
“Kogami….” I looked at me, starting to feel a bit sad.
“I wonder if the other guys are there. Well, it’s Saturday, someone should be there,”
He began to walk down the street again. From his movements, I couldn’t tell if he was upset or sad. I had a sinking feeling that even though Yamato said he trusted me, he didn’t believe the story that I had told him.
“Hey, you two!” Uncle smiled when we walked through the bar, “Long time no see!”
“Lorien’s here!” Yuta smiled widely.
“What? Am I invisible?!” Yamato said impatiently, but then relaxed, “You’re all here? You must have nothing else to do,”
“You came, too,” Saeki smirked at him.
“Long time no see, Lorien,” Takao smiled at me as I sat between him and Yamato at the bar, “how are you?”
