Chapter 16: Hold on

Morgan's POV
"Hey Jeninngs!" I called out as I walked over to where she headed, "we're heading back now..." I paused and looked around some more. "Where'd she go" I mumbled under my breath but that's when I came across something.

There on the ground was her gun, badge and phone. My head jerked around and I drew my weapon. The next thing I saw made me gasp. There were about 4 drops of blood, a printed out picture of her and Spencer from last week I'd guess by what they were wearing and a piece of paper laid one on the ground. I bent over in caution keeping a heavy eye on my surroundings, and picked up the white sheet with gray being the only color.

"JJ call the team," I shouted, "NOW!" I screamed so loud and even I could hear the concern pouring through.

"What's wrong Morgan?Wheres Corinne?" She jogged over sounding worried herself but when she reached a he ground next to me all she could do was gasp. She looked at the ground and saw Corinne's things and took the note out of my hand and read aloud," well hello FBI agents. Your probably wondering where your precious baby of the team is. Well she's safe... For now. Hahahaha. I just love this. Your done two geniuses today but it doesn't take a genius to know that she has at least a week if she behaves well. You might not want to call Reid right away because that too will end up with Corinne's destruction. Good luck agents.
        Yours truly, ???       " JJ gasped and started to cry. That was her best friend, I just grabbed her and held her close until she calmed down a bit. She looked up at me," let's get back to the station and catch this son of a bitch."

We arrived back at the station about twenty minutes later with the use of the sirens and lights and explained to the team and showed them what was left at the abduction site. We all were heart broken but we had to put it aside.

"Garcia look through Corinne's life and find every man that she ever even looked at," Hotch said in a more stern voice than usual into the phone,"Morgan and Prentiss you two look into any leads or ideas she had and JJ and I will call some of her family and friends and ask them questions about her. "

"Umm sir?" Garcia said over the video screen," when will we tell Reid?"

"When we need him Penelope. We need his head to be clear and him to be safe we can't catch him off guard like this." He replied sounding slightly heartbroken.

"Yes sir," she said in a very very sad voice and looked down at her keyboard with a glassy film over her eyes.

"Hey baby girl look here," she raised her head with a single tear going down her face,"focus mama we'll find her don't worry" I said in a sweet tone and Penny gave me a little nod. This job was hard enough for her already but now that the victim was a friend, her pain was ten times worse than any of ours except for what Reid's was going to be.

A couple of hours went by and Garcia had found  some of Rin's former colleges and friends who lived in our killers comfort zone but that was still about twenty people and we needed more.

"Hotch we need him. He deserves to know and he knows her better than all of us combined." Emily pleaded, Rin was her best friend too. I agreed she was like a little sister to me and it was my fault that she was gone I was supposed to be with her.

Hotch gave us a sad and reluctant nod. He got out his phone and handed it to me. "You know the most, you break the news." He said. My mouth opened in surprise then I took a deep breath as I dialed the number on the phone quickly.

"Hey Hotch what's up!" He replied in a cheery tone clearly having a great time with his mother.

"Reid it Morgan," I said quickly

"Oh hi.... W-what's going on?" He said sounding concerned.

"Well I-I don't k kW how to tell you this," I had to stop and think,"we were investigating the crime scene of our new case and Corinne walked off to look for more evidence, a-and well...."

"Well what Morgan!" He said in a very angry tone that but he still sounded like awkward little Spencer to me.

"She was the reason for the killings and when I went to look for where she went I found her badge, gun, phone, a picture of you two, a note and her blood. Spencer the unsub has her."

I heard him break down in tears, and explain and say goodbye to his mother. "I'll be right back home Morgan fill
me in please." Poor kid the love of his life had just disappeared and he found out over the phone.

We filled him in and told him about the M/o, the dumpsites and comfort zones and of course the note. We also explained that there would be a video coming to us within the next two to three hours from the unsub featuring Corinne. The kid was in tears the entire time and was filling us in on things in her life.

"T-tell Garica to look at a man named Copper Browning. H-he was her most recent e-ex and se told me that t-they b-broke up because he's beat her. She had him arrested in the area a-and she was worried that I-if we ever got a c-case there that h-he'd find her. He fits the profile you guys have perfectly." He finished his sentence as he walked through the door. JJ ran up to her other best friend and embraced him a in a tight hug and he broke down into tears.

The night was full of loose and dead ends, everyone was to tired to keep their heads straight. Hotch finally ordered everyone to the hotel for some sleep. He explained that the video would probably  come tomorrow and then we'd have more to go off of. Before we left Spencer walked up to the board and the stared deeply at the picture of Jennings.

He touched the image of her cheek and whispered, "hold on Rinny. Hold on," and with that he started crying, turned around and left the building with me trailing his every move.
