Chapter fifteen :: dans la future

Mr Daniels is sitting across the room from where Michael and Tyler are sitting. The students were told to take a break and it was just them two, for Calum is at the vending machine, fetching some drinks for all of them.

The intensity is present in the air, for Mr Daniels can not stop tapping his foot as he patiently waits for the results. Michael is not just nervous; words can not describe how scared he is and perhaps this is visible on his face because when Calum returns, he pats his thighs to assure him everything is okay.

All of them take a sip from their drink, but Michael almost chokes on it when a man in a white gown comes out, removing his gloves and holding an envelope under his arms. Technically, this is supposed to go straight to the judge and get it mailed to the lawyer's house but because they denied to wait that long, they are present in the office right now.

"Uhm.." the doctors says before clearing his throat and starting again, " Mr Daniels? We will need you to sign here, just for record purposes. You as well Mr Joseph." He hands them a form and Michael bites his nails as he waits. He feels like he is about to feel sick, because there are no butterflies in his stomach but moths.

After they both hand the form, the doctor gives each lawyer an envelope and Tyler is nervous to open it; he looks at his opposition whom carefully puts the envelope in his suitcase and leaves the office.

"Just open it, and let us get over with it already." Calum pressures, forcing Tyler to rip the envelope apart and open the folded paper.  His eyes scan across the lines and his eyebrows cross, causing him to look back at Michael.

"Are you sure you had nothing to do with the murder?" asks Tyler and Michael's heart skips a bit, but he still nods any ways, taking the paper from his lawyer who seems astounded. All of the language doesn't make sense to him but Calum takes a peak above his shoulders and points at the box which has 'MATCH' written in bold.

Calum turns to the other way and takes a seat on the chair with his hands covering his face; for some reason, he feels relief, although he really shouldn't, he feels relief and he tries his best to fight it. He takes a good look at his best friend and that is enough to get rid of the relief in his body.

"Excuse me, are you sure about this test?" Michael asks as he approaches the doctor with an envelop still in hand. The doctor smiles at him and nods before taking out a clipboard to assure if it is the right one.

"Code number : 783346?" he asks and observes the boy who has his eyes wide open. He points his fingers to the code which doesn't match the one that is read out.

"Forgive me," The man excuses himself and after a minute or so, comes back with a new envelope which has the same exact number on it. Michael sighs in relief and opens it, only to have a big smile on his face as he looks back to his lawyer.

"Look Tyler, it says it is not me! We have proof; look Tyler, look.." he chuckles and neither of the boys have seen him this happy, He jumps straight for a hug when he sees Calum smiling along, and for a second he feels like everything is perfect.

"I knew you had nothing to worry about." Calum smiles and looks up at Tyler whom in hand, has the previous document and is not smiling. He re-reads it again and again, in hope that maybe the next time he reads it, the letter will change; but they don't. They are painted on the paper and there is nothing he can do about it.

"Tyler, what's wrong?" Calum raises his eyebrows and the lawyer only gulps in response before storming outside for some fresh air. The boys follow him like a puppy right behind, and allow the fresh breeze to hit their face.

It feels good outside, to have nature surrounding them instead of fear, and for a moment, the trio forget about everything else and just enjoy admiring the sky. That is when it happens, a loud bang against a black car produced by Mr Daniels as he acts like a mad man.

He throws the paper away and takes out his phone, dialing someone, perhaps to let them the news. But Michael barely cares about the situation, instead, he is more concerned about what is making Tyler upset.

He takes a seat behind the man in a suit and rubs his back as a form of comfort, to which the man flinches; Stop, he tells himself in his head, for it is Michael who will need this comfort and not him. "What's wrong?"

"There is something you should know.." Tyler starts, his courage finally arriving his mouth from it's long journey. He twists so that he is fully facing his customer, who feels like a younger brother, and observing his green eyes.

He can not say it; not after the bliss he has seen Michael experience. But he must, for the boy needs to know what the paper previously given to him actually means, in terms of the case. He can not form any words and so he just gives the paper to Michael and observes his reaction.

It doesn't take long for the boy to start to shake, for in bold writings, there is a subtitle saying 100% MATCH, but at the end of the paper, it isn't Michael's name or Calum's; it says Mrs Karen Clifford.
