Chapter Sixteen; elle est ma meme
Michael is trying to take deep breathes and goes out for a walk to the nearest park while Tyler tried to solve Calum's situation. When the jury realises that he have lied, they would punish him under perjury, which can be as extreme as five years.
But that is not what Michael is worried about at the moment; it is his mother and how he can get her out of this mess. So many things have happened, his mind is starting to refuse to co-operate with his intentions. It is almost as if his body is disconnected from his mind.
That is when Michael sees Mr Daniels walk in to his car with another person inside; Michael can't quite make out what is happening but the man inside was of a similar age as him, perhaps two years older, dark curls covering one part of his face.
It seems like they are arguing about something and the curly haired man is screaming uncontrollably with some paper in hand; Michael soon notices it is the result and realises Mr Daniel is trying to calm the boy down. With much struggle, he succeeds, but it still doesn't look like they are on good terms.
As the car drives off, Michael wonders who the boy is and why they are arguing about HIS mother being convicted for murder. Even the idea makes Michael sick to the stomach, and he goes to the nearest phone booth to call her.
As the phone on his side made a ringing sound, it seems like nobody was there to answer the phone on the opposite side which makes no sense to him. His mother is always at home or at the support group she has been going since ever Mr Clifford passed away.
And instead of focusing on the fact that nobody is answering the phone, his mind wonders off to his father; if it wasn't for this man, none of this would have happened. He wonders what his mom looked in him when she married him; did he speak in poetry and rhyme? Is that why she loved him in no time?
He must have changed because of something, for nobody is born evil. Not that evil. HE pulls his thoughts back to his mother and the phone is still unanswered. He leaves the booth and goes back to the office, where Calum and Tyler are waiting for him outside the car.
The car ride is silent until they get to a zebra crossing, where Michael suggests they should check upon his mom and probably make her aware of the situation. Tyler nods softly and changes the direction to the north. Michael laid his head on Calum's shoulders and drifted off to sleep for a bit.
When they got out of the car, Michael rushes towards the door and reaches for the key which is found in the plant pot. He allows himself and his companions to go inside; the warmness of the house almost makes them feel like no tragedy have took place in the house.
"Mama!" Michael calls out as he checks for every room in the house. His problem of overthinking makes a comeback of the universe because he is positive she would have answered, for she was a light sleeper if that is the case.
Tyler checks upstairs and there is nobody there, causing Michael to let out a loud sigh for he doesn't want to think of his mom doing anything to harm her. He loves her, perhaps, a littler too much. She is everything he has, and if she leaves, he doesn't know what to do.
"I have called the office; they said they haven't announced that about the DNA results. Maybe she is out for a walk.." Tyler suggests as he tries to calm the boy down. Michael is trying, he is trying his best not to let that part of him get the best of his action.
Because when it does, his veins would dilate and his face would become tomato red; he would say things he doesn't mean, only to apologise later on. He looks at Calum who seems to be worried about something; Michael wonders if it is about himself or Karen.
Michael likes to wonder; he likes to think because the human mind is vicious if it stops thinking. It should be a machine which is only turned off when it goes to sleep; because over thinking is the only way to face reality with pain. Pain is good for Michael; it reminds him tat he is alive and breathing, that he is human.
However, this is too much for him. And he tries to keep himself busy by going around the house and checking cupboards. "What are you doing?" Calum asks Michael while Tyler comes back down from checking her bedroom.
"Making some green tea; when she comes back from her walk, she would love to have one. It is her favourite." Michael speaks, and oh no, that part of him is taking over, where he ignores everything just to make himself better.
"Michael, I checked her closet- it is empty." Tyler replies, staring in to Michael's nude soul.
"Maybe, she went to a friend's house for a day or two." He smiles as he stops the kettle from boiling the water and puts the tea bag back in it's pocket. While his observers watch, he starts getting some cleaning products and starts wiping the glass table and everything which seems out of place.
Calum knows what the boy is doing; he is ignoring his problems, and while Tyler is on the phone with Luke to let him know that someone important is missing, Calum snatches the cloth from Michael's hand and looks at the boy who is facing the floor.
"We will find her. I promise." he says as he puts the detergents back, but Michael isn't satisfied. He picks up the nearest glass and throws it across the room, alarming Tyler in to walking inside. He find Michael crouching on the couch, and although it is not the first time, he treats him with gentle touches.
His fingers are slow on Michael's cheeks, and he opens his eyes, only to realise that he is still in the car, outside his mother's house.
