I closed my eyes halfway through the car ride listening to screams of everyone else. I was pretty good at falling asleep, being in a car full of energetic people and all. I opened my eyes and looked at Caspar who was punching my arm.
"What do you want?" I asked, yawning afterwards.
"I want you to stay awake with me." Caspar mumbled, grabbing my hand and giving it a squeeze.
"Have you seen my sleep schedule?" I asked grumpy, looking out the window.
"It's my fault I know but Joe, once they thought you were asleep they mumbled to me to hurt you. I can't do that. Please stay awake." Caspar was begging as I rubbed my eyes.
"Fine whatever, like I said no sleep is fine." I mumbled, running a hand through my hair.
"When did you say that?" Caspar asked, as I looked into his eyes.
"Before you came up with the idea to beat me if I slept." I answered making Caspar pout. I flicked his cheek making him smile. My phone dinged, causing me to pull my hand out of Caspar's. I knew Oli would be texting me. I'm glad he's my best friend.
Öłī: You're driving back tomorrow right?
Joê: Yeah. Why?
Öłī: I can't stand James pestering. Besides he shoved you're controller in the freezer! I guess you can say it's getting cold without you.
Joê: You're really funny Oli. Im really tired though.
Öłī: If I was you napping would sound horrible. Im not even going to lie.
Joê: That's why you're my friend
I didn't get a response after that so I just shoved my phone in my pocket. Tanya was the one driving which shocked me beyond my will. She pulled in and we all got out, Caspar grabbing my hand again. I couldn't help but blush. I'd never had someone like this before. Someone like a boyfriend. He was my first kiss and now I just want him to be my first boyfriend.
We walked inside and the lady at the counter smiled at us. Everyone else sat down while I just stood looking around the shop. I didn't know why I was so fascinated by the sight. All the pinks and blues, the whites and oranges. It was just beautiful! I never thought of myself as one to enjoy a flower shop.
"Sir you can have a seat right here." She pointed to the very last seat next to Caspar. He grabbed my hand and I looked at him and smiled.
"Which one of you would like to go first?" I didn't even bother raising my hand. I didn't want them to make fun of me knowing I enjoy this. But of course Zoe went first. She is probably going to ask for everyone's opinion and then wait until we get back to acknowledge me. I don't really mind though because it'll be her talking to me without everyone else.
As soon as I heard mumbling I knew some shit was about to go down. I felt Caspar slip his hand into mine and I smiled. I didn't even mean to, he just makes me happy I guess. He bent my fingers back and I let out a yelp due to the pain. I shook my hand and looked at Caspar sadly. Next thing I knew my body hit the floor and everyone was laughing.
"Here's the lovely Zoe!" the lady begin the curtain exclaimed, as I pulled myself into my chair. Zoe walked out and a smile instantly appeared on my face.
"Oh my gosh! I've never seen you smile so big Joe!" Zoe exclaimed, walking over and pinching my cheeks. I laughed and pulled her crown off sitting it on my head.
"Do I look just as good as you?" I asked as she pulled it off, placing it back on her own head.
"Of course Joseph." Zoe replied, sitting in her seat as Alfie took over and said he'd go next. I knew I was going last and I was used to it. They'd put me last so many times. I just sat there, trying to ignore the whispers going around. I got up and began wandering around, smelling flowers that I had never heard of. I came across a group of flowers that were so pretty I couldn't help but consider buying them.
I felt like I had to buy them for Oli. He's practically been stressed half to death because of me. They seemed to look like a rainbow which fascinated me. Oli had come out to me a long time ago when he came out to his family. I think they were all awkward and James had no idea what being pansexual meant. I've known only since primary school and we've always been close. I was there for every breakup he would have and he's done the same to me. Well, Caspar's my first so to speak "boyfriend" but, he's always there.
I heard footsteps and turned around to see Caspar. He stared at me and I put the flowers back. I'm asking to be made fun of. I'm a horrible friend. I care more about my own feelings then Oli's.
"Did you want those flowers?" Caspar asked, grabbing them and giving them a sniff.
"Y-yeah." I stuttered, mentally slapping myself.
"If you want I'll get them for you." Caspar grinned, putting them in my hands.
"They were going to be a gift. I don't want you to have to pay for the gift of someone you hate." I responded, reaching in my pocket and pulling out 20 pounds.
"Is that all you have?" Caspar asked, looking at the price.
I nodded, feeling ashamed.
"Well, if you want I'll pay the 5 pounds extra and take your money okay?" Caspar asked, taking the money from my hand.
"I guess so." I mumbled, following Caspar up to the register. He put the pence in the ladies hand and then handed me the bouquet of flowers.
"Who are they for?" Caspar asked as we took our seats and Tanya walked in.
"Oli." I sighed, expecting to be made fun off as I saw Caspar and I were the only two without crowns.
"Why are Oli and you so close in the first place?" He asked, taking the flowers from me, sitting them on the counter.
"I've know Oli since primary school. We've always been close. We were the two outcasts. No one wanted to hang out with us. Oli helped me to figure out my sexuality and be okay with who I was. I did the same to him. When James was born Oli wanted me to hold him before he did. I still to this day find that funny. James was always nice to me, all of his family was. He replaced mine. Well, besides Zoe." I explained, as Tanya came back and Caspar got up.
"Heart touching story." he mumbled, walking off. Zoe came and sat beside me with a huge smile on her face.
"You're next Joe! Caspar told me you were going to look so handsome he was going to explode." Zoe chuckled as I stared at her flower crown.
As I was about to speak Caspar walked out and I didn't feel any happiness when he smiled at me. I got up and walked back feeling heartless.
"If Caspar can't tell me how he feels and has to dart to Zoe instead that's fine."
