Chapter 9

I was sitting on the pack balcony railing sipping coffee. I peered at the sunrise in awe. I heard someone walk up and lean on the rain besides me. I glanced to find Lucas. He looked at me in awe.

I smiled,"What?" He shook his head and smiled back

"You're beautiful." He said making me blush. I looked back at the sun rise.

"The first time I had ever seen the sunrise is the first day I ran away." I said.

He looked at me confused. I sucked in a breath and looked at him.

"My pack was abusive to our females. My brother Greg broke me out. I ran as soon as I got outside and I haven't once looked back. I got to a pack not too far from here. That's where I met Tyler and Eric. My brother  found his way to me and we made a pact. We stick together, train, then go back and fight. We gave ourselves a year." I shared with him the story but not the truth.

He looked at me sadly,"I'm sorry. I'll help you, when it come time to fight."

I shook my head,"This pack needs their beta. Plus on the last month we're shutting down. You can't afford to shut down you have too many people who trust you."

He looked at me intently,"What do you mean by shutdown?"

"I mean emotions. We're shutting down emotions so they don't get in the way. If you were to do that then what will happen to the pack members who rely on that emotion to know you care enough to protect?" I said.

He sighed,"They wouldn't trust me."

I nodded,"Exactly."

He grabbed my hand,"What will become of us when you shut down?"

I looked him in the eye,"It'll be over. And you can't get upset over it because I'll probably die anyways. Don't get attached."

He looked conflicted as he thought about it.

Wolves gathered underneath us.

"We need big game like deer and moose! I've assigned small animals to the necessary wolves for the kids. Would anybody else like to join before we go out?" A man yelled.

I jumped off the balcony and landed swiftly in between two large men. "I'd like to join the hunt."

Lucas walked out with my brother by his side and nodded to the wolf.

"Alright, let's go!" He yelled. We all shifted and ran into the woods. I ran fast to get deeper into the woods.

I can hear two wolves running behind me. After a few seconds Greg showed up at my side and Lucas was on the other side. My eyes widened at how well Lucas is keeping up. Oh my god.

I halted quickly and they stopped. I looked at Lucas dumbfounded. His breath-taking black fur was full and shiney. He was as big as Greg. He's a hybrid. I stared him down. I should have known.

I took off with all the speed I had. Greg and Lucas both ran beside me. We ran as three, in a straight line, with over supernatural speed.

I heard a branch break and stopped. We all looked at each other and nodded before getting low. I scanned the area. There was a buck and two doe. I looked at the guys and nodded. We swiftly went after them. I took down a doe with Greg and Lucas got the buck. We then took off again.
