Chelsea's POV:

Jakob, I'm assuming, yelled at me and accused me of lying about my parents, which I wasn't exactly thrilled about. He judged me before we even had an actual conversation. Of course I wouldn't go up to him and yell but I wanted to. I wanted to yell at him for making me coward down but I didn't want to upset Mike, Tre, or Billie after all they've done for me so far. Mike and Tre sat at the foot of my bed while I sat at the head of it curled up in a ball.

"He didn't mean any of it. You just caught him off guard," Tre comforted me.

"Yeah. He's just making sure that you aren't making up your story. All he wants to do is protect his family, which you are now a part of," Mike added.

I had so many things I wanted to say in that moment but I couldn't get the words out. I nodded my head at what they were saying instead of talking like I should've. They kept rambling on and on about how it wasn't my fault that Jakob yelled. I already knew that Jakob didn't trust me, or like me for that matter. He thought I was a burden on his family, which I was, and that made him absolutely furious.

The door opened and Billie rushed to my side. He motioned for me to scoot over so he could sit down. I obeyed him but avoided eye contact. Billie was intimidating, unlike Mike and Tre, who for some reason were very likable. Don't get me wrong, Billie was also very likable but he just seemed to himself. Mike and Tre were open about themselves even though they didn't say much yet.

"I'm sorry that they did that. Usually I can trust them to be understanding but I guess this time I was wrong," Billie apologized.

I stayed quiet and nodded. Occasionally, I'd open my mouth and almost say something, but the words wouldn't come out. Mike noticed every time and would furrow his eyebrows together with confusion. They kept going on about how sorry they were for Jakob and Joey's behavior. Again, I nodded my head at everything they were saying. It was weird how much they apologized for someone else. In my opinion, that's not counted as a true apology but I decided to let it go, just this once.

There was a knock at the door and Tre got up to answer it. Adrienne walked in, looking nervous, and waved for Billie to come over. He walked over to her, eventually walking out of the room, and going downstairs.

I wonder what's going on? Adrienne seemed so scared. Maybe she was scared of me? Great! Another person thinks I'm a serial killer! Fantastic! That's exactly what I need right now! I'm such a problem!

Billie's POV:

I followed Adrienne downstairs where a tall man in a blue suit and tie stood. He had a receding hairline and glasses. He had a police officer with him, who looked just as stern as him.

"Can we help you?" I asked politely.

"Hello, I'm Mr. Heeler with Gibson Dunn LLP. I'm a lawyer. Chelsea Martia is staying here, correct?" Mr. Heeler asked.

"Yes, why?"

"Her mother wants to take her to court to set the record straight."

"What do you mean? She hasn't done anything wrong."

"Her mother is...she's...her mother says that Chelsea killed her father."

There's no way that Chelsea killed him! Right?! Her mom is lying! Chelsea couldn't hurt her father, let alone kill him! I'm testifying against her mom! Fuck her lies!

"She's lying," I testified.

"We don't know that yet. We have to hear both sides of the story before we can decide who's guilty and whose not," the officer stated firmly.

"Chelsea's mom was messed up. I don't know what thoughts went through her mind but, I know for a fact that Chelsea couldn't kill her father. He was the only one in her life who treated her like a normal kid! Chelsea's mom killed her dad, that's her side of the story!"

"Can you please calm-"

"Don't tell me to calm down! She's just a kid! I don't know if you understand how scared and depressed she is! I'm sure she's smart 'cause so was her dad, so why would she kill her dad if she knew she was going to be depressed? Answer that and I'll calm down."

"The court date is exactly three months from now. I'd get a lawyer if I were you," Mr. Heeler warned while handing me a document about the trial.

They walked away and I slammed the door behind them. When I turned around, I didn't notice that everyone, except Chelsea, was downstairs. They must have heard the whole thing because they all looked upset.

"That's horse crap," Tre angrily said.

"Why would her mom even say that? Its her fault and she knows it! She shouldn't be putting Chelsea through this," Adrienne said.

"What do we do?" Mike asked.

Everyone turned their heads towards me for an answer. I tried to think of a plan but I came to the conclusion that we had to go along with the trial as stupid as it was.

"We have to get a lawyer. I guess we have to go through with this trial," I replied angrily.

"What about Chelsea? What can we do for her?" Joey questioned, almost in a whisper.

"We have to tell her; that's all we can do," I answered.

In that moment, Chelsea came downstairs with a piece of paper in her hand. She handed it to me and stood next to Adrienne, who wrapped her arm around her. The paper had neat writing on it and brought a smile to my face. This paper was our last resort if we were at the trial and began losing.
