Three months later
Sarah's POV
I'm out for dinner with Brendon. My mom has no idea I'm still talking to him because I've been lying to her about being out with either Ryan or Tanner for the past few months. What my mom doesn't know won't hurt me, right?
"So, I know it's been a few months since we started hanging out. I really like you, Sarah. I was wondering if you wanted to go out with me?" Brendon smiles, sipping on some water. I stared at him, a smirk on my face. It's been a while since he's flirted with me like the first day we met.
"Well, aren't we already out? We go out all the time, B." I know what he's getting at, and I would love to be his girlfriend, if he only asks properly.
"Oh my God. You're going to make me say the words? OK, fine. Will you be my girlfriend, Sarah Marie Zeal?" He asks me, marriage style, on one knee, hands clasping my own.
"OK, just get up off of the floor." I laugh and kiss his cheek. "Could we get the bill, please?" I ask a waiter who is walking by.
"Of course. Just a moment." He says and walks away towards the back. I look at Brendon and we burst into laughter.
"Did you see the way he looked at me?" Brendon cries, through his chuckles.
"He must have thought you were crazy, proposing to a teenager." We smile at each other, as the waiter comes back and hands Brendon the bill.
"Hope you had a nice meal. Please come again." The waiter smiles and Brendon hands him a wad of cash. We stand and walk out of the restaurant, hand in hand. He opens the car door for me and I sit, buckling my seat belt.
"I'm so glad it's March break." I sigh as Brendon settles into the car as well. I grab his hand and lean into him. He smiles down at our intertwined fingers and squeezes.
"I kind of need that hand to drive, you know?" He smirks at me, but I keep my hand locked in his.
"Oh we aren't driving." I smile, looking into his face. He looks so lost and confused. I lean in and kiss him strongly, making up for all the lost time. He kisses me back, bringing his free hand up to my hair and pulling me closer. When we pull apart I brush my nose against his.
"I've wanted to kiss you since that day when Ryan gave me that dare." Brendon smiles and pulls his hands away, putting the car into gear. I laugh lightly and pat him on the knee.
"See, good things do come to those who wait." I assure.*****
"Congratulations!" Ryan yells, throwing her arms around Brendon and I, as we stand awkwardly in her doorway with the news.
"Thanks, but it isn't really an accomplishment . . ." I joke, letting myself into her house to go sit on the couch. Brendon gives me a playful glare and sits beside me.
"What movies are we going to watch tonight?" He asks, throwing an arm around my shoulders.
"I was thinking Disney movies. Like Aladin, Aristocats, the original princess movies . . ." we hear Tanner's disembodied voice answer from the kitchen.
"Really, Tan?" We all groan. He's the only one who likes the classics. Don't get me wrong, I love Aladin and Aristocats, but princess movies are brutal.
"Can we watch the Nightmare Before Christmas?!" Brendon and I yell, at the same time. I stick my tongue out at him and he gives me a high five.
"But it's neither Halloween nor Christmas. It's too late." Ryan argues.
"I mean, it's a great movie . . . We could watch a movie that isn't animated." Brendon suggests. "How about The Hunger Games?" We all nod in agreement and snuggle up on the couch to watch the greatest dystopian movie any of us has ever heard of.
Almost everyone is asleep, including Ryan and Brendon. I stand up and stretch, going to the kitchen for a snack. I hear something behind me, and turn around, ready to punch someone in the face. It's only Tanner.
"Hey, Sarah." He smiles at me weakly and grabs a kitchen knife, slicing through an apple I hadn't seen in his hand."Hey. Why aren't you asleep?" I ask, taking a slice of his apple.
"I couldn't fall asleep, you?" He asks, stepping closer to me, with his hand full of apple.
"I was hungry." I reply, taking another piece of apple from his hand.
"I see that." He chuckles, eating the last of his apple pieces. "We need to hang out more, you know?" He hugs me to his chest and I hug him back.
"I know. I'm sorry for not being there. It's just that it took so long for that Jamie Bolton thing to clear up, and instead of going to you or Ryan, I went to Brendon. I shouldn't have ditched you guys. You're my best friends." I hope things can go back to normal, even with Brendon being my new found boyfriend.
