Chapter 31- Psych

Kensi's POV

It has been over two weeks since I was saved from Nicaragua. I was given some time off to recover from the weeks away. Yesterday, I went back to work for the first time. I didn't realise how much things had changed while I was gone. Security had increased because of the breach by Riley. Background checks were in the process of being re-evaluated to look for fake identities. We also had to start meeting with a psychologist after any cases involving firing a weapon or being injured. It was a pain, but there was an upside.

"Nate!" I ran up to my old friend who was leaning against Callen's desk in the bullpen. "I haven't see you in forever!"

"I know, I've really missed this place." He gave me a quick hug.

Deeks walked up next to us.

"How's it goin', man?" he smiled.

"It's good. Glad to be back." the psychologist nodded.

"So what are you doing here? We had psych evaluations three months ago." I asked.

"Hetty brought me in to talk to you guys. Something about a rough year and familiar faces maybe helping."

"Oh great. Just some more quality time with your friendly neighborhood shrink." Deeks sighed sarcastically.

"Shut up, Deeks." I rolled my eyes.

"Well I can see you two have barely changed from the last time I saw you. How's your "thing" going?" Nate smirked.

"Thing? There's no thing."

"Yeah, what she said." Deeks said a little too quickly.

"You really shouldn't lie to a man trained in reading people. It's pointless." He teased.

Luckily Callen and Sam interrupted at just the right time. Nate turned his attention towards them.

"What's up, Doc?" Sam grinned.

I tuned out the rest of the conversation and looked over at Deeks who was awkwardly rocking back and forth on his feet. His lips were pursed together, and his eyebrows were furrowed like he was thinking hard about something.

"Kensi? Are you in there?" My head popped up at the mention of my name by Callen.

"What? Sorry, zoned out." I said quickly. "What was the question?"

"How are you holding up?" Sam repeated.

"Oh, um, fine. I've been in worse situations than what King can bring."

Everyone sorta stopped talking at King's name. He was basically the monster living under your bed for this team. Sure, he was dead, but it always still felt like he could still be lurking in the shadows. Whenever I think about that night, all I hear his the raspy sound of his dying voice stabbing directly into my soul.

"This will never be over."

That's what his last words were before the life left his body.

"This will never be over."

The more I think about it, the more I believe it could actually be true. King's plans were too well planned out and complicated to be cracked as easily as they were. There shouldn't have been and easy way to stop him.

Maybe I'm just over thinking this.

"This will never be over."
