Chapter 33- Determined
Deeks' POV
I walked into the bullpen with Kensi, and Sam and Callen went silent.
"You guys can stop trying to protect me or whatever. All I want to do now is find who killed Jack." Kensi sighed, sitting down behind her desk.
"Kens, you don't have to-" Callen began to say
"I want to, Callen. Don't tell me I can't do something I am perfectly capable of doing."
"I just don't want-"
"Callen..." She pleaded. "Please."
"Fine, but if the case gets to much for you, you're off for good, got it?"
She nodded quickly, and swiped the case file off of my desk and started reading through it. Her expression was slightly pained, but luckily Kensi has a good poker face.
"Have you told the family yet?" She asked.
"No, but Sam and I were gonna-"
"I wanna talk to them." She interrupted again.
"Even I don't think that's a good idea." I sighed. Kensi shot me a WTF look.
"Kensi, Jack was living under an alias. It's always hard to tell a family that their father and husband is dead, but also saying they never knew who he really was?" Callen tried to explain, but Kensi wasn't having it.
"I knew Jack better than all of you combined. Better than any case file or autopsy can tell you. I am the only one who can relate with the wife and help her through this. You have to trust me, I can do this."
Callen stared down at the case file, thinking hard about his next decision. I half hoped he would make her stay back, but on the other hand if we go see the wife I can learn some more about Kensi's mysterious former fiancee.
"Go ahead, but be gentle, Kens. Don't scare her."
"Yeah, yeah." She rolled her eyes, and we left towards the car.
Kensi gave me the silent treatment throughout most of the ride. When we were about two minutes out, I got tired of not talking.
"What? Are you mad at me or something?" I finally said.
"No, just thinking." She said without hesitation, like she was waiting for me to ask.
"About what?"
"Stuff."
"Come on, Kens. Is this about me being against letting you take the wife's statement? I just thought it would be a bit awkward for you to be in the same room with his wife, you being his ex and all... For the record, after you explained why, I changed my mind."
"I'm not mad about that, Deeks. I just have a lot on my mind." she glanced over at me for a moment, reading my facial expression.
She parked on the curb, and we walked up the sidewalk to the two story house. A brown haired, brown eyed woman answered the door. Her similarities to Kensi were shocking.
"Hi, can I help you?" she said, looking between the both of us.
"Hi, are you Christina Levy?"
"That's my maiden name, my married name is Caskade, but whose asking?"
"Special Agents Kensi Blye and Marty Deeks, NCIS. Could we come inside?" Kensi said holding up her credentials.
"NCIS? What is this about?" Her eyes widened.
