Chapter 6

I wondered along the short pavement thinking how wonderful this would be if it was a proper date.

I would be in a dress and he would wear a tuxedo and we would ride in his car. He would hold my hand and walk under the stars with me right after our romantic dinner, then he would drive me home and we would treasure the last minute of the night together before he kisses me goodnight.

“Get in,” he demanded, when I reached the fancy black car of some sort. He had opened the passenger door for me and without further questioning I slid inside.

He was in his seat in an instant and the car was moving. The engine was so silent that if I didn’t see him steer, I would’ve said that we weren’t moving.

I could see everything on the outside clearly even though the windows were dusky. It was tinted a dark coal black. If someone was outside they would see nothing inside. It was just that dark.

I fiddled with my white overall most of the time in the car. I saw Vincent look over at me a few times and that lit a small smile on my face, but half of the time I was bored.

“We’re here,” he mumbled just before he shut the door and opened mine.

“Thanks,”

My stomach grumbled. That was my queue to push everything that was bothering me aside and set my mind on food.

“Let’s eat,” I muttered as I stepped inside the restaurant.

Pizza World was unusually crowded today. It was like the entire town was here.

I looked around.

Nope, the town wasn’t here but my junior year was.

I groaned. It was still my birthday couldn’t I have some peace?!

Vincent led us to a quiet table in the corner of the room. I tried to avoid eye contact with everyone as I made my way, by his side.

He pulled the chair out for me and I sat down.

A waitress wearing a light yellow uniform was by our table.

“Welcome to Pizza World where Pizza comes in every shape and size. It’s the only place that sells pizza the way you want it. What would you like?” she asked.

“A mini square shaped perfecto pizza and a can of mountain dew.” I replied.

“Same,” Vincent answered.

“That’s all for now then.”

She walked off with the order.

“Looks like your friends over there spotted you but they’re not coming over.” He mumbled.

“They’re not my friends,”

“Oh?”

“That’s Cecilia and her friends and for some reason they hate me.”

“Why?”

“I have no idea.” I muttered. “Ever since I moved here they treated me like I’m a threat. It wasn’t that bad before but as time passed by, we all grew and changed and they have somehow acted a whole lot meaner to me and there is no way to ignore it, so I just return the favor.”

“How old were you then?”

“6 years,”

“That’s harsh,” he said.

“Well its part of life. Anyways Selena said you just moved here and you’re going to be in the same year as us?”

“Yes,”
