Chapter 1: V

She is the key to eternal sorrow and pain! I must protect her from him before he eradicates her from this world, thus before Earth turns into hell itself. She must survive as she is humanities only chance of surviving and it is my destiny to protect her even if I die … once again.

Selena

I walked up the long, quiet street searching for his house. The familiar blue door was my invitation to knock … or ring the bell.

I stood patiently waiting for him to open. The dim sky was shaping into a decent colour which meant time was ticking by.

At last his surprised gaze met my annoyed expression.

“Selena?” he asked in astonishment at first sight. “What are you doing here?”

I’ve clearly awaken him from his sleep.

“Hey, Zachery,” I said, waving my hands pathetically.

He yawned. “What are you doing here this early?”

“Don’t you know what day it is today?”

“11th of March,” I could see the slight realization in his face as he replied. “Shit its Amy’s birthday today!”

I nodded. “Yes,” I said in disbelief. “How could you not remember?”

He shrugged. “I’ve been busy.”

“You’re dead meat.”

“Selena, don’t tell her,” he pleaded.

“Nope,” I quickly said.

“Come on Selena,”

I groaned. “That’s not fair though. You deserve a lecture.”

“Why do I deserve it? I’m a guy. What do you expect?”

“Well for one thing, you could at least be perceptive.”

Zach sighed. “Don’t tell her.” The sudden cold voice narrowed on the final word.

I shuddered briefly, but I tried to maintain a straight face. “Well, it’ll depend. If you give Amy junk like all the other time you can kiss yourself good-bye.”

“My gifts aren’t that bad. Amethyst loves them.”

I shook my head “No, she loves us.”

Zach grimaced. “Seeing how you forgot what day it is today, I’m not surprise if you’re empty handed. What are you planning to get her?”

“It’ll be something good enough to shut you up.”

I smiled. “Back to business,” I muttered proudly. “I’ve came with an invitation from Jacinta Layne herself inviting you to the outing.”

“Now?”

I nodded. “Are you coming?”

If I knew Zach well, and I certainly do, then Zach would definitely be going. He wouldn’t come just for the sake of his girlfriend’s existence but for Amethyst, the birthday girl and his best friend.

“Are you going to stand out there?” Zach gestured me in.

“I’ll take that as a yes.” I said as I stepped into his cozy house.

I wondered about in his lounge room while he was in the bathroom. He had a small azure sofa and a wooden coffee table assessed like a proper match in the middle of the room. The cream colored walls and carpet were a clear impact in this small place. The large window that faced the front yard was framed delicately in velvet blue curtains that needed to be hanged.
