Jacinta

“Where is Amethyst?” I asked Selena as soon as we were at the opening.

“No idea,” she answered

“Boys?”

“Haven’t seen her ever since we walked off honey,” Zach answered.

“Me too,” Sam added after Selena broke away from the small kiss.

“When were you two a couple?”

“A while ago,” Selena answered.

“Congratulations I guess,”

“Thanks.” I looked around searching for that one face that I’ve barely known.

“Vincent, where is Amethyst?” I asked when I spotted him coming out from the entrance.

He looked concerned. “Isn’t she here?”

“No, that’s why I’m asking. Have you seen her or not?”

“No,”

“This is horrible.”

“Where could she be?” Selena was just as worried as I am.

“I should go look for her,” Vincent said.

“We should all go,”

“No,” Vincent’s tone was hard.

Sam agreed with him. “Selena, love, let Vincent go find her. We’re not much of a help.” He said as he took her hand into his own.

“But …”

“Selena, Sam’s right. We might get lost too. We don’t know the way like Vincent does. It’s best we let him go alone.” I soften my voice. “We’re all her friends. We care for her. I’m sure Vincent feels that way too. He will look after her just as we would. She’s safe with him. Understood?”

Selena nodded.

“You just take the bus from here to the city. I’ll call when I find her. Stay there and enjoy your time.”

“You should go before she’s in real danger.” Zach said firmly.

Vincent nodded and walked back retracing the path that we had taken.

“I’m really worried. She could be in all sorts of danger.” I hugged Zach tightly for comfort.

He patted my head. “There’s nothing to worry about. She’s a big girl Jacinta.”

“Don’t act like you’re not worried too Zach. We’re her friends.”

“You’re right. I am concerned. Who knows what lurks within these forest.”

“But she’s not a little kid. She can defend for her own or at the very least run.” Sam protested.

“You don’t know Amethyst, Sam.” Selena said.

“Can’t she run?”

“Yes she can.” I replied. “But …”

“But, she will trip and fall as she runs for her life,” Zach continued the words that couldn’t pass by my lips.

“She could scream.”

“That depends on the situation.” Zach explained. “She’s the clumsiest girl in town. Once she fell down the stairs.”

“And face flat on the ground,” Selena added.

“And into a pond,” I declared. “Lucky it’s not shallow. Otherwise Amethyst could’ve drowned. She’s no swimmer you know.”
