Adam stared off into the distance, he could hear them discussing the latest case but their words didn't make sense, they couldn't penetrate the fog that had lived in his head the last few months.

If you asked him, he'd be unable to tell you the last time he slept more than a hour or so a night and it was never a straight hour. He'd doze for ten minutes only to be awoken by Kim's frantic pleas for help, her begging him to save her from the monster.

Forget about eating, he never had an appetite every once in awhile he would force a sandwich down, only after pleading with Kim to eat. She would only agree to it if he ate something as well.

He wanted nothing more than to take her pain away, she would yell at him over the littlest things only to cry hysterically in his arms and beg him not to leave her.

"Ruzek!" Jay called, "Adam, snap out of it" he tapped his desk with his fist, "you with us?"

He ran his hand through his hair, "Yea, sorry" he stood and grabbed the latest case file, "what are we doing?"

Hank leaned against the white board, "We aren't doing anything, kid. You're on desk duty for the foreseeable future. It's obvious your head isn't where it needs to be" he normally would send someone who was so distracted home, but he knew Adam needed to be here. To feel as if he was doing something.

"I'm fine, I just spaced out" Adam explained, though he knew it was a wasted effort it was obvious he would be a useless, more of a distraction to the rest of the unit.

"You are many things, fine is not one of them" Hank approached him, "you can stay here and work from your desk or you can go home. It's your choice but you aren't hitting the streets. You're a liability, everyone is worried about you and we can't risk someone getting hurt covering your ass" he knew he was being harsh, but it needed to be said.

"Fine!" Adam sat on the desk, "I don't know what to do for her"

"Stand by her, reassure her" Hank told him, "it's gonna take time Adam, and some days she's going to scream at you, but you need to be ready to catch her when she falls"

"Thanks" Adam smiled, "I'm sorry I can't get it together"

"We all understand Adam, this family is here for you"

Trudy knocked on the door, "Kim, it's me. Open up" her heart had been in her throat since Kim had called her earlier. Over the past three months they had grown close, she became a surrogate mother for Kim. She had spent many nights holding Kim as she cried, or listened as she expressed her fears about her relationship with Adam and how it had been changed.

Kimpulled the door open, "Trudy, I don't know what to do" she collapsed in her arms, "He's going to hate me"

Trudy lead her to the couch, "What is it going on, who is going to hate you?"

"Adam will" she sobbed, "I think I'm pregnant"
