Kim paused in front of Erin's door her fist hovering a few inches from the door, she wasn't sure why she was so nervous all of sudden but she was.She took a deep breath and knocked.
Within seconds Erin appeared in front of her.
Kim opened her mouth to speak, only to find her voice had been lost to tears, "I'm sorry" she finally managed to say, Erin pulling her into a bear hug.
"I'm sorry too, I never should have mentioned adoption it was insensitive" Erin apologized, using the back of her hands to wipe her eyes. "Come inside" she ushered Kim inside.
"I've picked up the phone at least a hundred times to call you and apologize but something always stopped me" she told her, "I've missed you so much" she smiled, "so much has changed"
Erin smiled, "I know. Jay told me, I'm so happy for you guys" she offered her a drink. "Where is Adam? Jay will be sorry he missed him"
Kim scowled, "What do you mean? Adam said he was playing golf with Jay this morning"
It was news to Erin, "Kim, Jay's here. Still sleeping"
"You're kidding" Kim hoped she was, "Adam left the house around eight said he was picking Jay up and then headed to the golf course"
As if he knew he was being discussed a still sleepy Jay appeared in the living room, "Hey Kim" he smiled as he kissed Erin's cheek, "where's Ruzek?"
"That's what I'd like to know" Kim answered her mind racing. For once though she was confident that he would he come home to her and their son would who be arriving any day now.
He'd been driving for hours and his legs ached, he exited the interstate and pulled his truck into a rest stop. His legs screaming as he stood up and allowed the blood to flow again, he rolled his neck trying to work the kinks out.
This was something he needed to do, he'd keep his wits about him this time but he needed to do this.
He grabbed a red bull from the cooler and grabbed a bag of chips, definitely the breakfast of champions, Kim would kill him if she knew what he was eating. The thought of Kim brought a smile to his face, he wanted to hurry up and get this over with. He hated that he had lied to her, but he knew she wouldn't want him to go and would beg him not to. He needed this though, he would explain it to her when he got home, hopefully she wouldn't be too mad.
He just felt bad that he had pulled Jay's name in to it, hoping she wouldn't question it and Jay would be none the wiser.
"I thought you and Adam were playing golf today?" She asked her hand rubbing her belly.
Jay gulped from the orange juice container, "I have cups Jay, you should use one" Erin complained.
"Sorry" he winked, wiping the orange juice from his lips, "Sorry Kim, I don't know what you're talking about. Adam never mentioned playing golf to me, though that would have been awesome"
"I'm going to call him" she dialed, only to have it go right to voicemail, "Adam call me as soon as you get this. I'm at Erin's, with Jay" she said, a hint of anger coming through in her voice.
She bent over to put her phone back in her purse when a pain shot across her abdomen, "oh, my" she said through her teeth.
