ONE MONTH LATER

He pinned the picture of his next target on the board, he'd become quite the little serial killer he laughed at how easy it had become. Five bitches he smiled, already dead. Each one easier to grab than the last, even with the story all over the news they still insisted on running before sunrise.

They deserved it.

Kim had successfully avoided Adam the last month, though it killed her. She would watch him from afar and his body language said all she needed to know. He was just a miserable as she was but he was respecting her wishes and staying away.

Erin had begged her to come out for a girls night, but she couldn't shake the feeling that Adam would be there, but she deserved a night out. Plus, she knew Adam wouldn't approach her with everyone at the bar. She just couldn't allow herself to end up alone with him, mainly because she didn't think she'd be able to resist him.

Jay sat at Adam's desk, "You're coming, right? It's been weeks since you've come out with us" he played with police car on Adam's desk, "only you would have a toy at his desk" he laughed as he pushed the car around making engine sounds.

"You're the only one who plays with it Halstead, what's that say about you?" He laughed the car a gift from his nephew, "Yea, I'm coming tonight. This case is killer" he cringed at his words, "no pun intended"

Jay smirked, "I get it. We all could use a distraction" he told him, "Erin said Burgess is coming" he hinted, "just thought I'd let you know"

"What do you mean by that?" Adam asked.

"Nothing, but obviously it makes a difference" Jay said before leaving, "see you in a little bit"

Adam nodded, he was beginning to think Erin and Jay had been talking and that just maybe Erin knew what he was going through. That her and Jay were in the exact same spot as he and Kim. Though, there wasn't a him and Kim anymore, he was hoping he could change her mind.

Surely she was just as miserable as he was, if she wasn't she had him fooled. He knew he loved her their breaking up had made it crystal clear to him, and he hoped she felt the same.

Kim arrived at Molly's just as Erin and Jay pulled up, causing her to wonder if they were together. Maybe the conversation she had with Erin that night was her way of letting Kim know she understood.

"Hey Burgess" Jay greeted her, his hand touching her elbow, "how are ya?"

"Pretty good, you?" Kim responded as she took her jacket off.

"Jay, why don't you go grab us a spot at the bar" Erin told him, waiting until he left "Sit down, we need to talk"

Kim followed her to a table, "what is it?"

Erin pushed her sleeves up, "Okay, I'm gonna put it all out on the table" she told her, including her relationship with Jay, "because, I don't think I can handle another day of down in the dumps Adam Ruzek"

Kim felt her heart flutter, "what's wrong with him?" She asked trying to determine what exactly Erin knew, "I don't know what I can do about it"

Erin laughed, "I'm sorry, but you both are terrible liars. I know you two have something going on, well had something" she looked back at Jay who was involved in a conversation with Otis and Hermann "It's not easy, but it can be done Kim. Jay and I are doing it"

Kim was shocked, "You and Jay?"

"Yea, but like you. We don't want Voight to know" she leaned back, "Kim, Adam is coming tonight. Maybe you two can talk".
