I smiled at the wolf and walked to it. It bent down and motioned me to get on its back. I did exactly that and then we were off. He was sprinting so fast that I had to cling on to the raven black fur to stay on.  Trees around me blurred as he ran and I knew he was faster than the average wolf. We suddenly stopped and he genteelly laid me on the ground. His body loomed over me, big and strong. Oh my god, he was going to eat me, I knew I shouldn't have trusted a wolf! My family was going to go crazy when they find me missing and then when they find my body- I can't even imagine it. The wolf leaned down but instead of shredding my body, he started to lick me all over. I burst out into giggles as the wolf's rough tongue glided over my cheek. The strong scent of pine was in the air and I knew we were in the middle of the woods.

"Okay, okay." I said and crawled away from him. When I stood up again, I smiled at him. "I guess you missed me."

The wolf licked my cheek one last time to show that he did and I stretched to my tippy toes to kiss him between the ears. He moaned softly. I looked around and saw that we were pretty deep in the forest, the trees appeared over me like skinny, black skyscrapers and the moon shone brightly through the dark leaves. Wind blew through the branches, causing them to rustle softly as though the forest held a secret.

"Good because I missed you too." I said and ran my hands through his fur. I needed a friend to talk to and I knew he would be the only one who would listen even if he didn't understand. "You know what? You need a name. Since you are mine, you have to be named by me."

The wolf blinked at me as I thought up names. "Hmm, I like your eyes so I would call you purple but that is an awful name and violet is a girl's name. How about indigo? It's not even that purple but hey, it works." I asked and the wolf licked my face as if to tell me that he liked it. I smiled brightly and petted his fur softly.

"Indigo, my wolf."  I said and he growled a little from an emotion I couldn't understand. I went and sat down by a tree and indigo sat beside me.

"So, how was your day, indigo?" I asked and ran my hand through his fur. He growled softly and gave me a lick on the knee. "I'm going to assume it was terrible until you met me." I said and Indigo licked me again. I laughed a little "Me too, I had an awful day. It was all because of Adam." I said. Indigo tensed up and then turned to me slowly.

"Yea," I said "He is this kid at my school and we have this weird connection but he doesn't want to admit it. He called me crazy and said lots of meant things. It didn't make me feel too great about myself." I replied and looked down at my toes. Indigo growled softly and then whined.

"I'm sorry, I don't understand." I said and continued to stroke his fur. He let out a deep, frustrated growl. It looked like he was having some sort of inner battle and I just stared at the wolf.

"Maybe he is scared." Said a voice. It was a deep, almost unearthly sound. I looked around but there was no one there. Where had the voice come from?  Finally, I looked at Indigo with wide eyes. It couldn't be! He couldn't...talk, could he?

"Was-was that you?" I asked and stood up slowly as if he was going to hurt me but I knew he wasn't, well, at least I was pretty sure.

"Yes." He replied and stood up too. My mouth dropped as I started to back away. Indigo followed cautiously. I was going crazy. Wolves can't talk! What's wrong with me?

"Oh my god, I am going insane. Adam was right! I'm hearing wolves talk! Or maybe this is all in my imagination." I said in a frantic voice. Indigo growled softly; his purple eyes glittered in the shallow moon light.

"You are not crazy and I am real." He replied as he walked in a loose circle around me so I wouldn't go anywhere. He looked like he was ready to pounce on me if I tried to run.
