CHAPTER FORTY TWO: Flashback

Kenji's POV

We've been searching for her twenty four-seven at nung nalaman namin na nakalipad na siya papuntang Singapore ay umuwi na kami ni Marc. I was so devastated, I felt so useless.

"Ano na naman kaya ang pumasok sa kukote ng babaeng yun? Nung nagpahatid siya kay Mang Rey sa ospital nung isang araw, kinabahan na talaga ako. Ang aga niya kasing umalis pwede naman siyang sumabay kina Mama." I just nodded kahit na hindi na pumapasok sa ulo ko ang mga sinasabi niya.

"I just wanted to give her some time alone. I thought she was with you guys. Kahit nga hindi man lang siya nagte-text sa akin, hinayaan ko na lang, just to give her some space." I felt so dumb that all I could do right now is wait. One week lang naman daw ang tournament.

"Nag-away ba kayo bago siya umalis? Baka naman nagtampo?" Marc asked me. I know he's really worried dahil unang-una, alam niya kung gaano ko kamahal ang kapatid niya at kung ano ang mga pinagdaanan namin.

"That's the weirdest part, kasi okay naman kami nung huli kaming nagkita. Wala namang nagbago. Kaya mas lalo akong naguguluhan." I explained to Marc.

"Mas lalo naman akong di naniniwala kung gusto lang niya talagang maglaro kaya biglaan siyang umalis nang walang paalam kahit kanino. May matinding dahilan yon."

It's been a puzzle why she left. We kept on guessing why she had her sudden decisions that drove her to leave us with questions. One week pa akong maghihintay bago kami magkita at magkausap ni Jamie, that's why I thought to myself that I need to wait patiently.

But in just two days, may mga nalaman na akong dahilan.

"Kenji, we'll be going back to the States. Pack your things." It was the least thing I expected to hear especially from mom. I already knew something has gone wrong.

"Umma, I need to stay here and wait for Jamie. Why the sudden change of plans?" She was even crying while packing her things. I've never seen her like this before, she looks so desperate.

"Wala nang kasal na mangyayari, Ken. So you better forget about Jamie." I just ignored mom and look for dad. Forget about Jamie? She knows I can't do that.

"Appa, what happened? Bakit tayo babalik ng U.S? Paano na ang negosyo? And can you explain why the wedding's off?" Then dad explained everything. At least his side that is.

"Mira found out about James and your mom's relationship but that was before they even met. Mas nauna silang nagkakilala bago sila naging mag-bestfriend. She didn't took the news very well that's why she's now accusing your mom of such things." I just listened intently. I want to understand why they have to drag the two of us with their issues. Para kasing mga bata, kampihan ba?

"I told your mom to just let it pass. Magulo ang isip ni Mira, wala na siyang tiwala kay James dahil sa nangyari sa kambal."
